I know its been a long time since I made a post. But I have had nothing to add until now. Besides, its probably better to keep my stupid comments to myself since I don't own an Evo. But my brother does!
I've talked his wife into modding his car for X-mas. So here is the list:

RSR Exmag exhaust
Turbo XS downpipe
Highflow 3'' cat
Logic i/c piping upper and lower (painted gloss black)
Weapon R engine dampener
Autometer boost gauge
Greddy type s boost controller
Greddy auto turbo timer
Porting o2 housing and possibly exhaust side of turbo
K&N drop in filter
MR blow off valve
And installation for everything which will be done next week at a performance shop

Funny thing is that he thinks he is just getting a boost controller and timer. We had to tell him that he was getting something because we were having trouble getting the Evo away from him for 2 days. I do work for a Mits dealer and I was going to tell him that I needed his car because of a massive recall on the 05 Evos (spontanious combustion ), but I thought he might get too suspicious.

I left tuning and a fuel pump out of it because I'm not sure in which direction he will be going with the car (mail in flash or dyno tune). So I will let him decide something for himself. I think after the tune it should bury the car into the 12s and give my GTO a good run for the money!

I will thank this site in helping figure out what is going to be best for his car.

I don't know what a Greddy type s boost controller is but I think you meant a greddy profec b?

I would just spend money on a manual boost controller b/c they hold boost with much less hassle and only cost $90 bucks. Check out the forge unos mbc it almost allowed "Warrtalon" to dig into the 11's.

Sorry, the exhaust has already been purchased. If I would have noticed your post earlier, I would have considered it.

You will find the boost controller in the link listed below. I was even considering scratching the boost controller from the list and let the ECU control boost but I thought for maybe some adjustability in the future. I do not wish to start too much debate on electric vs. manual but the decision has been made and thats basically it. I'm sure he will appreiciate it. As far as the profec B goes, NO WAY!! We have had some serious problems with it in the past with a heavily modded WRX. It cost him thousands of dollars in dyno tuning without results and wasted time with headaches. I'm sure some people have gotten that god forsaken thing to work in there cars, but I just don't want to bring up bad memories. He wouldn't think it was a gift but more of a punishment.

I wouldn't port the exhaust side of the turbo. If he don't like the way it runs for whatever reason that is something he cannot go back on. I know you and his wife mean well, but if somone did all this tuff to my car and it didn't turn out right I'd be a little pissed.

i wouldnt do the 02 housing.. plus its expensive install.. good mod but not worth the money unless your upgrading the whole turbo and everything around it at the same time

I have the profecB spec II and it's just fine. It's a little $$ if all you want is a simple boost controller, but it has features that I like.

the profec type s is similar, but no digital readout.

b spec II:

I agree. Just stick with the normal bolt ons and he'll still love the idea. That's alot of money for such little gains IMO. I'd leave the turbo alone and let him do that if he wants.

Now this was on a WRX which may be different on how boost is controlled on a EVO. On the dyno the boost controller would fluctuate pressure. And the car would shake tremendiously on the dyno through the run. It did this every other run for about 20 runs. The tuner could never get a clean run in to tune the car. We insisted that he deactivate the profec boost controller, but it was too late in the evening to do so. A year after my brother sold the WRX, I spoke to a customer who had an 03 Evo that was in for service. He also had the profec boost controller. He explained to me that he was getting the same terrible fluctuation as I described. He told me that the profec has multiple modes in reading boost (example: kpa, psi, bar). If you have the psi setting on, you will get boost fluctuation. In the other two you shouldn't. Not sure if Greddy has fixed this problem, but I wasn't prepaired to find out. If it would have worked out great, then I would probably have ordered another. Whats funny to me is that the type s and the profec cost almost the same.

I really wanted the shop to port out the exhaust manifold, but they would not do it for the money I wanted them to do it for. So I told them to port out the o2 housing and see if there is anything to clean up in the wastegate area. If there isn't, no big deal. The shop has worked on many Evos before and I trust them. Anyways if something does not go right, I know who to blame. Thats why everything is being ordered and installed by this particular shop. I have been down the path of ordering parts from someone and having them installed by someone else. Its not pretty when something goes wrong, you don't know who to blame .
