I will agree on the mileage, I just emptied the first tank on my IX and I got roughly 20mpg. I was expecting it to be much worse, it was a pleasant surprise.

I don't see how the 8s are more ricier than the 9s but whatever ! These are just opinions though so ....

The VIII tails are shiny jewel boxes, which mimics the riceboy altezza look. Mitsu actually thought we would like that, so they made them that way. I have no idea why they would think the Evo should be associated in any way with the typical Honda crowd, but oh well. They went to a less shiny look for the IXs, which is great.

I am hearing it is more free flowing than the stock VIII's but whatever it is, its quieter, I can vouch for that. Second, I know its not a performace thing, but I am averaging 20MPG in the city with this car, and its not even broke in yet, my VIII averaged 17mpg broke in! I think the MIVEC is helping out big time on the MPG. Its an issure here in California where 91 octane **** gas runs $3 a gallon. You definately can tell the difference in gear ratios. I drove my friends VIII the other day just as a refresher since I have not had my VIII for almost 2 yrs. In 5th, the IX runs about 3200rpm @ 70mph and in the VIII its about 2900. So the gearing is shorter for sure, which IMO also makes the car seem quicker.
Now on the other side, I do like how the VIII came with HID's and foglights stock, and now they are Optional, unless you get the MR then they are stock. My buddy that still has the VIII was bragging how he still has a intercooler sprayer, and I really couldn't give him a reason why took it out, but only thing I could say is, they must not need it anymore? I trust they know what they are doing when it comes to the EVO so I am sure they took it out for a reason, and I sure it wasn't just cost.
I have many people compliment me on the new car, even older folks seem to like this car vs. the VIII people saw as just a ricemobile. I do feel the car evenwith its simple changes to the outside, just makes the car look fancier. By others saying the same just proves it. The smoked lenses front and rear, the new rims, the new front end, the interior, just all makes it look fancier. I will take an VIII anyday don't get me wrong, but the IX just has a more exspensive look and when your spending 30K on a car, that is a nice feeling.
I have had many friends trying to get me to use various different synthetics when it comes to my first oil change, I only have about 700 miles on it, when it hits 1000 I will dump the factory fill. I have used so many different synthetics in the past that I feel the MOBIL 1 it came with is just fine. I used Amsoil in my VIII, Royal purple, Torco, and Redline in other cars, and noticed no difference at all. So I guess I will just stick with the Mobil.
My friend and I are gong to get the Car Dynoed in El Cajon, CA soon as it has a couple of thousand miles on it, so if there are any people from the Imperial Valley or San Diego, CA that want to join in, we can get the cost down cheaper if we do a group thing. So Let me know guys and gals..........Nice talking to ya........Till next time................Jeff

Great post....... now lets see some pics of the new machine.

My Post

Thanks again for all your input, I just want to add a few things. First for the person using Royal Purple, The purple color is a tint, and nothing more, it actually does not stay purple, after about 500 miles or less it turns the same color as any other oil. I asked Royal Purple about that personally. I find the best deal for oil at COSTCO, here in California it runs a box of 6 for $27.00 for MOBIL 1. I also feel the cosmetic differences are noticable, even my Mother noticed them right away, and she is far from being a car geek. haha. I did not know the ACD resivour was where the IC sprayer bottle was, I was wondering what that was in there, haha. Maybe I will hold off on the oil change for a little longer, heck Motor Trend went 5K on their first evo oil change even with the tire shredding driving they did.

and change oil at first 20miles ....to get rid of all the metal particles out..

anyone got different opinion?

Wow you have had your 9 a month and only have 700 miles on it? I have had mine 3 days and I have 1056 miles on it....of course I did have to drive it 8 hours home from ohio...but still. Also I managed 23-24 miles per gallon on the drive home. mostly 70mph driving. mine is the br 330 model so that may affect gas mileage as well--i have heard it is slightly better.

20 miles?? Yes, I have a different opinion. Boost hard and boost often, but let off around 5k until you get to 500-600 miles, then boost it like it's going out of style all the way to the rev limiter or however you prefer to drive, then change the oil at the regularly scheduled interval (5k miles or 3-4k miles if racing).

Evo IX - best yet

I have owned Evos for more than 10 years, including an Evo 1, Evo 5, Evo 6, Evo 7 and now Evo 9, and there is no doubt at all, the Evo 9 is by far the best yet.

Its also worth noting in all this time, except for clutch problems in all the cars, there have been no mechanical failures at all. After my experience with the Evo 1 it became obvious that the clutches had to be changed and I used Daikin Exedy in all of them to great effect.

The Evo 9 is clearly faster and smoother than all of the earlier models, although for our roads I find the suspension a bit too soft. Its a great car, mine has covered 8,000Km trouble free, I strongly recommend it.

No, not a professional, wish I were though !!

I am so sad that Mitsubishi just announced its withdrawal from the World Rally Championship - guess I'll have to buy a Subaru next time.

Rallyman, wow, pretty cool to own so many EVO's we here in the USA are not that fortinate to have the opportunity to buy EVO's till 2003. Personally my favorite EVO is the 6 and 6.5. I just liked thatbody style. I find it a shame that you would buy a Subie just because the EVO won't be in Rally races? But, I am sure you have your reasons.

Over the various models the handling of Evos has changed a lot and each version improves the experience.

I have not seen it mentioned in the forums as yet, but the Evo IX includes as standard a much more aggressive ACD. Cross country a IX is much faster than a VII - almost a full rally arrangement. Its very impressive.
