Aftermarket oil filter NO NO! (pics)
The "long short" is. I purchased an aftermarket oil filter in a pinch instead of going to the dealer. (closest one is 30 minutes from me) All of the filters I found for the 2.0liter turbo motor were longer and narrower that the factory.................I bought one anyway!!!!!!
Last night at dust I heard something hit the bottom of the car. Then the slight smell of oil.............Look at my oil pressure gauge and it is at 5-10psi. Whip a left into a parking lot and shut the motor down.
The only good part is that I was coming to a stop when it happened (read no load) and the oil did not drop on the ground. It was spaying out from a gash/hole in the filter. I don't beleive there is any motor damage but I will know later when I get the part into the car.
Moral of the story.....................Buy factory oil filters and for those of you with "sandwich plates" for gauges, get rid of them.................Oh and watch for crap in the road
Here is the result:

I might have had an issue with the factory filter also, but I don't think I would have broken the threaded casting.

i just picked up an K&N oil filter(came free with my drop in air filter)...i used them on my other cars and half always been more than happy with them....i havent recieved the filter from Summit yet but does anyone know if there is a similar isssue witht he K&N?
Guys and Gals,
I know they cost a little bit more, but try to go with Mitsubishi factory oil filters!
You will save yourselves a lot of heartache in the long run!
I hope your car checks out alright!
Best regards,

There is no problem with the filter itself, this could happen with any filter. However I feel in my situation the length of the filter made it worse than it would have been. had the factory filter been in place.

This just happened to a friend of mine in town. He had the sandwich adaptor on also. I believe he was running the factory oil filter. I second the idea of not using the sandwich adaptor or aftermarket filters.
Guys, the point of this thread was that those with the Sandwich adapters should beware since it extends the length of the oil filter regardless of which brand you are using. The adapter is the culprit here, not the filter that fits properly.
Also remember that Mitsu cahnged their design of the oil filter as they used to be longer. Now they are wider and fatter.
