Which year is mine??

Hey all,

I have searched, but to no avail

I am trying to find out whether my car is an 04 or 05 model... now before everyone starts laughing thinking I don't know what car I drive here's the deal

South Africa mitsu started importing Evo 8 into SA in april 2005. only 40 arrived and even the dealer doesn't knoww if its an 04 or 05 evo, yes SA can be a bit behind sometimes.

here are some engine and model numbers to help

engine 4g63lj4005
model: ct9asngfzr6s

hope that helps. are their any other ways of distinguishing the two? believe there is a difference in the UICP?

Mike

Not sure based on those numbers, but there are also sites out there that will give you the year based off the VIN for number for free.

when i worked at an acura dealership the 8th to last number of the vin number denoted the year

last 8 would look something like this 5A532067 with the 5 before the A signifying that it was a 2005

im not sure if its the same with mitsu or not but thats my 2c

look at date code on door. If its built after 10/04, it should be an 05 model....should.

the tenth digit is the year, not the 8th. the 8th is the engine code

You got the IC sprayer and ACD? In the US the 03/04 got the sprayer and 05 got ACD.

It is actually the 8th digit over from the right. So you count forward 8 numbers from the end. That is the UNIVERSAL code. It works for EVERY car manufacturer. You can of course also count over from the left and it would be the 10th digit from there.

5 is 05, 4 is 03, 2 is 02, 1 is 01, z is 00, y is 99, x is 98 and so on and so on.

since we are in america, well many of us. i figured you would read left to right, not right to left. and if you open any repair manual, mitchal, chilton, or manufacture's, they explain and break down the vin from left to right, clearly stating that the 8th digit is the engine code and the 10th is the year. complete break down: 1st- country, 2nd- make, 3rd-vehicle type, 5th- restraint, 6th- series, 7th- body type, 8th- engine type, 9th- check digit, 10th- model year, 11th- plant, 12th thru 17th- serial number.

Fixed it for you!

I,O, & Q, are never used and Z, U, and Y are not used as a year designations

2005 model Evos in the american market don't have the intercooler spayer only came with the ACD. I think all earlier model years came with the intercooler spayer and no ACD control. I don't know if this applies at all to JDM or UK specs. I would try to search your VIN number or try to look on the vehicle sticker on the door as others have suggested, good luck.
