Funny how after we've driven the car, the whole AYC/ACD discussion died.

Yes, but that's Version 7 comparisons.
Believe it or not, I've driven the STi ver.7 (one of the hand-made one's from STi to boot), and there is no comparison between it and Ver. 8. They've moved weight away from the top of the car, they've taken out the understeer, they've fixed the rear-end wobblies. For that matter, I've driven STi's all the way back to Ver. 4 RA's with DCCD. The new STi is faster than those, too.
I generally will refer to the V8 STi and WRX as a whole-new model as opposed to a face-lift, because there are literally almost as many changes to the cars as between the GC8 and the GDA.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

I have a JDM car show movie in which the STI and the EVO go head to head on a drag strip , raod course and race track - this was EVO VII vs. STI Vii - - needless to say - the EVO blew away the STI - in fact they had two different evo versions and two sti versions - basically the STI is a nose plowing pig compared to the evo and its way slower
Why not watch this and see that still the case with the new STi?Originally posted by Alfriedesq

It is good quality, regular TV capture. More for Suby fans than Evo folks, but it has some interesting clips nonetheless.
After watching it you will realize what Paul is saying about the vast differences between the v7 and v8 STi. Night and day. The v8 leaves the v7 for dead in every contest (except vs the v7 spec c).
Look at the first contest, the 3-lap battle between the v7 and v8 STi. On the first lap the v8 overtakes on the long back straight and goes into the corner really hot. No four wheel drift though, it oversteers with the rears smoking! After that the driver just has fun hanging the rear end out again and again.
One word: DCCD-A.
The Evo is awesome and the USDM STi will undoubtedly prove itself as well. The good thing is both Mitsu and Suby fans are happy and have a "hero" on our roads.

Most of you probably already know that on the last part on the video where the Evo 7 VS STi race the Evo VII RS missed 2nd gear and got passed. The old spec C was the fastest because they remove something which dropped the weight down even futher. The lighter cars is obviously fastest. Truthfully, I feel you can't go wrong with either cars.
Reminder evo steering ratio is 13:1
Spec c ratio 13:1 "i think"
STi is 15:1
WRX 16:1
I feel our evo is more track oriented like the spec C. Since the USDM STi comes with the 15:1 steering rack i hope it's the same Spec C suspention and not the slower softer ride STi suspention. But time will tell and i said it before if the USDM STi have the spec c "new type R/A" suspention. The difference in handling could very well be only drivers preference

Simply put, I'll be faster in certain cars vs. other cars, and it has nothing to do with the inherent ability of the car itself. Even if the Evo or the STi is "inherently" faster than the other, it's quite possible that even the most professional of drivers is going to be faster in the "slower" car if it matches his driving style. And when the time difference around the track is measured in 10's of a second between two cars, then whichever one suits you more is going to be faster, period.

Thank you Paul!!! They are all great cars for the money. Just because the stats/specs say one handles better, stops better, or is more powerful doesn't mean it'll preform better on the track on an individual basis... the cars don't drive themselves, but I admit, the number games are fun!

Frankly I've never been terribly impressed with the upgradability of big 4 cylinders. On top of this, the WRX's engine design makes it much more prone to detonation than the 4G63. Who knows if the 2.5 will be the same or not, but it is an indication. Then add into this the crazy ECU that the WRX comes with and how it hampers modifying the car and Mitsu looks positively fantastic.
But then, I have a different prespective than most.

Both cars share same pedigree and lot of similar features. And from that end, for most people here there will be no visible difference between those two. But, when driven by better drivers who can get more out of the cars, those "little" differences as center of gravity will take a place in the game!

You read me wrong. I am saying that there is more to it than a lower center of gravity.Originally posted by MrAWD

Probably, but I am not talking about what people can do with cars, since that is just assuming stuff. I am talking about the cars themselves.Originally posted by MrAWD
