Going to the track for the first time....

Ok, not sure if this is the right section but I just had a question.
I'm heading to the track next weekend with a few work buddies. One has a C5 Vette (I think 03/04) & the other has 2003 Saleen Mustang.

It's going to be a weekend trip so we should get plenty of runs. My question is, since this will be my first time actually doing it, what times should I hope to run. I'm not a young buck (33) and I know how to launch pretty well, but I've never done the lights yet. I dynoed the car about 4 months ago over at Buschur Racing on their MD. She put down 263whp - 259 torque....

(2003 EVO VIII)
(Buschur Stage 3 - 264/264)
(Custom Tuned @ 23psi/93oct)

What kind of times should I expect with decent launches Also, how do you guys think I'll fair against the stang and vette?

To be honest, I'm hoping for mid to high 12's. Is this in the ballpark or am I way off being that this is my first time? By the way, the track is in Ohio for climate questions)

Thanks for your feedback!

Watch the lights, and when you see the 3rd yellow light illuminate, start to launch. by the time the eye-foot-clutch reflex is there, the green light will be on. good luck. dont roast your clutch, dont overrev, you will bog down on the line. relax! have fun, and spank that vette butt!

^^^ yup.

pre stage - come up slow to the line 2 light close side by side will light
stage - same, move very slow the 2 lights side by side right below the ones that just lit will light up. then get ready then the 3 below them them will start from the top - down 1, 2, 3, when the third ones lit start to let the clutch out, by the time you are moving the light will be green. go fast, have fun, dont burn the clutch up, and even more importantly beat the **** out of the freekin FORD (Frequentally Overhauled Rapid Depreciation)

Frankly, we get tired of these questions, because there's really no way to answer you. It all depends on how well you drive. With 0 experience, especially 0 experience launching an AWD car with over 300whp (Dynojet-equivalent), you will have a helluva time getting it right. Hopefully, you will get a lot of runs like you're expecting, which will give you time to figure it out. Unfortunately, unless there's other Evos there to help, you may not figure it out. Be sure to not launch below 5k, try not to kill the clutch (slipping), try not to kill the t-case (dumping), and try not to bog (low rpm).

At your power level, you car is capable of 12.2-12.3, especially in this weather, but you should just try to get 12s first, then see how close you can get to 12.5

Btw, how in the hell is a track in Ohio open in January? I've been searching all over VA, which is further south and haven't found anything within 250 miles of the DC area, not even Richmond. There are a few obscure tracks doing Test'n'Tunes in NC, but that's very far. Let me know where you're going, because there's a bunch of us looking for tracks within a 4-5 hour drive...

An I can say probably not worth the drive unless its "The ROck"dragway?
didn't know there were any tracks open here (NC ) either.

Good luck though.Easy on the Clutch.

ever since My "honda days" I haven't wanted to hit the 1/4 w/ any desire for some reason & I've owned way faster cars since then.

06 PorscheCA season is under way in March for me! CMC here I come.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Warrtalon, I understand your frustration with these kinds of questions but what I was really looking for came in your second paragraph. You stated "At your power level, you car is capable of 12.2-12.3, especially in this weather, but you should just try to get 12s first, then see how close you can get to 12.5." This gives me an idea of what my car is capable of doing. My take on this sentence is that I should be able to get into the 12's after quite a few runs. I know I'm probably not going to hit the 12.2/12.3 mark based on my current track experience, but you've at least told me what the car is capable of doing. I appreciate your feedback and will remember what you said when pulling up to the lights. (slipping/dumping/bogging).

As far as the track being open, my friend at work who drives the Vette knows the owner so I'm not sure whether this is just a "hook up" or if the track is open to the public. I will find out tomorrow and post something tomorrow evening for those in the Ohio area who are looking for a place go.

Thanks again guys for your feedback and I'll post my results once they arrive.

make SURE you tell me, because I will drive all the way over there and race with you if it's on the weekend of the 21st/22nd. Especially if it's a private affair, if you can get me in, I'd love to get a chance at not waiting in line for over an hour between runs. I could also help you out with launching, shifting, logging your runs, and maybe do a run or two in your car just to see how your car is running. If this track is not that far from Norwalk, I may do some runs, then go to Buschur Racing to install my cams, then go back to the track. Big plans, I tell ya!! Let me know!

Not a problem Warrtalon. I'll let you know. Would be great to have a fellow EVO owner(s) there to give me some pointers! I appreciate the offer!

It's great to have BIG Plans, especially when your EVO is involved!
