need help, grinding, not synchros...
...at least I don't think so. A few weeks ago, I did start to get that 5th gear grind that everybody dreads, but it wasn't too bad and I' ve been so busy that I haven't had a chance to take it in to the dealer. But I have been taking it very easy and making sure it doesn't grind when I put it in 5th until I do.
But now, I have this very strange grinding noise, coming from the front driver side of the car. I thought it was my rim grinding on something, so I took the rim off and inspected everything, then I thought, well, maybe the brakes are gettin hung up somehow, checked that and no visible rubbing or galling on any brake components. Well, it's gettin worse and more frequent and just now, it was grinding loudly even while I was sitting at a stop light in nuetral. So I am wondering if something is up with the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate assembly. The car is an 05 with 8500 miles on it. I am having no issues with clutch slipping or anything of that nature. I did have Works install my valve springs/retainers a few weeks ago and I don't recall hearing that noise before the work was done, but I don't see any of the work they did causing that noise (but I could be wrong). The more I pinpoint the sound, it really sounds like it's comin from the tranny. Does any part of the transmission actually spin while sittin in nuetral at a stop light? When I drive and it makes the noise, I can feel the car hesitating, kinda like it's gettin physically hung up on something and not really any ignition related problem like timing being pulled. I know I'll have to take it in here soon, just wanted to see if you folks have any idea what it might be and if it's related to the 5th gear grind or somehting different. I do have quite a few mods (no tranny work or anything drivetrain related other than cams/valve springs/retainers) and want to try and get a story together if a warranty void issue comes up...
OH yeah, I also can't recreate this problem at any speed/rpm/boost level or any combination. It seems to be totally random, but I notice it at low speeds/stopped...
Thanks!
