Question R32 for an Evo

Hay guys I am Jeff and have a question for you.
I know this an Evo forum but do you guys have any REAL b/s problems with the cars. I am a vw tech and I am just sick of vw's I have owned them since I started driving 9 years ago. I have always liked the 4G63's, and know they have alot of potential. The Evo is one of the sexiest cars I have ever seen. I grew up in Ohio about 20 mins from Norwalk, and I know Mr. Buchur is right around the corner, so parts will be easy to get.(by the way nice shop Dave) Right now I have an r32 it has 8,500 miles on it. I bought the r32 because back in 04 mitsu dealers were jacking me around. Anyway I love the R it has accually increased in value in the past 2 years. So I need you guys to help me finalize the deal. I am looking at the a silver MR, and the basic 9, white with the leater package, not the RS Are the 6 speeds weaker or stronger than the 5 speeds or about the same. Thaxs for your help I will no more tommarrow.

Good luck with the IX... you'll love it. The R32 is a cool car, and way nicer inside, but as you know, performance is not even close... As far as the 5 and 6 speeds being weaker or stronger, I'm sure they're probably about the same except the 6 speed has more parts to break

Yea had a couple friends with R32's and got to drive them a lot. A real fun car but my biggest complaint about the r32 is the four wheel motion system will not let it drift well or do axis spins. I have also a friend that had a r32 with a stage 2 vortech supercharger and even that was not able to get that sideways. For certain people that is a good thing but Im sure you will be real happy in a evo. The seats somewhat similar. If I have you car and had it somewhat paid off I would buy an Rs and modd it heavily

As far as performanc the Evo takes the cake everyday, But the only reason why I like the R is cause its a hatch. I got a thing for hatches.

don't get me wrong, i LOVE the evo but check out hpa(clicky ) before you ditch your car. the fit and finish on a vw/audi is miles above any mitsu product.

yes the evo handles MUCH better than than the competetion, and is a more RAW car. however much can be said for the quality and customer service for audi/vw.

i am just about to drop the ft-400 kit in my audi tt DSG, which should spank stock evo 's on the track with 400 hp/ 380tq.

the r32 is much more comfortable as a daily driver than the evo. its all a matter of what you prefer and what your willing to spend.

the 4g63 has been proven time and time again for hp levels well above 400 hp on a stock block.

its all a matter of how much you want to spend.

EDIT: don't forget audi STARTED the AWD revolution with their quattro system!
if you think about it, trading/selling your car, you are going to lose money anyway, and why not spend the extra on upgrades...

however, if you want world class handling/braking/accelaration, the evo is right for you, as long as you also consider the price of upgrades.

on topic:
i've read somewhere that in this professional racing event (totally forgot the name), when an MR wanted to compete Mitsu recommended swapping out 6-spd for 5-spd...
i also heard that the final gears for both transmissions have VERY similar gear ratio...so 6-spd is sorta like having one gear between 4th and 5th on the 5-gear tranny...

hope this helps

i agree its expensive, however audi/vw/porsche are now in bed together, which means everything is going to be more expensive, and in GENERAL the german tuners are not cheap.

u know i am first and foremost a vw lover. i have been to the past 4 waterfests and a spring show and go. i love the r32. my first car was a 2000 golf 1.8t which i dumped about 11,000 in . loved that car, the only problem is that u dont have the money to spend then its just a good car. with the evo u can spend little to no money and get a fast *** car. if i personally had the money, i would buy a r32 with the twin turbo hpa kit, or even the eip kit. both sick *** cars, but i know the hpa kit is like 25,000 bones, so um yeah, if u got the money keep the r32.

Coming from the vw world myself w/ a 337 turbo upgrade... i have absolutely no regrets... the evo is faster and more capable than the 337 with simple and cheap bolt-ons.

The R32 is a nice car for what it does, but I believe you will be very very happy with a IX as long as you know what you are getting your self into. The EVO has pretty good reliability until you start to mod, and most people mod, the addiction to mod the EVO is unreal. I haven't even bought my EVO yet and I already have my mod plan mapped out all the way to the AMS Stroker Kit. Even after you mod the EVO it still can be reliable as long as you really take care and notice problems before they get out of control. For instance one member had some issues with his EVO and his car was down on power. Boost leak and probably another minor issue that could had been taken care of. Instead of fixing it, he decides to completely ignore the problem by adding more parts on his car, eventually leading to engine failure. You cannot do this with the EVO, the EVO can give you much pleasure and joy, but if you don't take care of her (like a spoiled child), she will give you much grief. If you feel like something is wrong get it checked out immediately.

dollar for dollar I'm not sure if any car can compete with HP gains of modding per dollar spent.

Why is it every conversation about the R32 comes an HPA comment? To those in the vw community that know it's really not what VW tuners are about but it's cool.

I've had two evo's since trading my R in last year around march. I've had zero problems other than killing the tires, brakes and majority of the competition at the local autox.

Been a dubber for too many years to count and understand exactly where you're coming from. You'll be amazed at how easy this car is to work on. Every now and again I miss the smell of that beautiful leather (folks that know the smell understand) and I'll go by my friends and just sit in it.

Enjoy either the 5 or the 6 speed. I prefer 5 gears though

Word^ Former 337 owner myself. I do appreciate the build quality of my VW but it was such a PITA to work on and performance mods get you 1/10th the gains they would on an evo. I love working on my evo now, sooo much easier to deal with imho.

I weighed out my options....toss more money at my dub (approx 7-8 grand) or part it and get a faster/better platform to start with. After driving a friends evo the choice was obvious Still have lots of dubber friends and work on them often, even go to the gtg's still. Most of them love the evo and understand my decision completly.

Sometimes I miss the dub, I thought it was pretty sexy
