Evo MR as a daily driver?

I was wondering if an Evo MR would be a good daily driver. I drive 150mi round trip so gas mileage, comfort and tire wear would be a factor. The Evo would be a lot more fun to drive than the Civic Si I ordered. If anyone could tell me what MPG and how long tires last on this car I would be greatful.

I drive 60 miles round trip in my MR. I get about 20-22 MPG depending on how heavy my foot gets and at what boost setting I have it at. Not sure about the tires, still under 3k miles. Get a beater to drive to work everyday, drive the MR for pleasure.

i wouldn't want to waste my tires driving straight on the high way (they last like 17000 driving conservatively)... but it's an awesome daily driver nevertheless

well, i daily drove mine for like a year. what i done as far as tire mileage is i just bought a stock set of enkeis and had them powdercoated what ever color you like. and put some of those 40,000 mile tires on there. and then only put your advons on when you are going to play. mine has since been retired from daily driving duties

I have an 05 MR as my daily driver. I drive mostly city miles during the week, and longish distances (300+ miles) on the weekends. I've seen a little better than 20mpg in combined driving, but I also have modifications to consider. The way you drive will determine your tire life, but i would say with mostly long distance street driving your first set could go 15k - 20k maybe. I do love the MR as my daily driver, the suspension sticks like glue and is very compliant even on crappy northeast roads.

The 6 speed doesn't make a big difference on the highway, but the closer gears are better for everything except serious drag racing.

Awesome daily driver. The problem is you always want to go fast and find the curves. I've gotten close to 30 mpg on the freeway a couple of times (girlfriend in the car) but that was crusing at 70mph. Good luck.

I use my evo as a daily driver and go 25 to and 25 back from work and think it's awesome. I switched out my Stock tires but have heard those things wear out fast and cost a fortune to replace(Kuhmo ASX now). I think if you're just driving on the highway most of the time you can make them last longer than the normal Evo owner. Also gas mileage sucks compared to a civic. I used to have a 2000 civic si and that thing would last forever on gas. I usually fill the evo up at around 200 miles with a 1/4 of a tank left. But it's worth the fun because you can't go fast without wasting gas.

Pog0 A beater would make the most sense but I hate driving beaters. Thanks to all of you for the info. This will help me in this decision. I also glad the Mits dealer has 3 MR's in stock!!!

I have an 03 EVO and I've used it to drive 1000 miles a week since I bought it. I now have 110K miles and I'm still not tired of it! I'm on stock clutch number 2 and had the TC replaced at just over 100K due to a bad bearing. I switched to AMSoil 100% synthetic at 30K. I get right at 30 miles per gallon highway if I drive it nice!

I have 22,300 miles on my MR. I got it in May. I'm still on the stock Advans (make sure your tow is ok, and they should last). I think I can get 30,000 out of them. Great daily driver with the Bilsteins (IMHO). If you live in Michigan or somewhere else that has freezing, the roads won't be as forgiving as LA.

Redcloud That's a lot of miles!!! Quality was also a question but you answered that for me before I asked. I have to drive nice when I drive to the DC area because of traffic and the Police.

1. Get yourself a good set of all season tires. I have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. There are the best all season tire you can buy. Super traction in wet weather and they wear great!

2. Get yourself a tune. You would not believe the gas mileage you would get out of a good tune. So much gas is just wasted by not having a tune! Get your ECU flashed from a local shop and you will pick up power AND mileage!

Other than that, the Evo is a great daily driver and will last as long as you take care of it.

well you live in maryland right, so you are gonna have to get winter tires so consider that! I havnt driven in an MR but from what I have heard it rides decently with the bilstein shocks, just go testdrive one and find out

Its truely hard to say if I would advise driving it as a daily driver as much as you drive. Well for efficiency purpose that is to be clear. I have a hard time just cruising with no boost while on the freeway or any road to be honest. I bought it to drive not ***** foot around.

They are right if your going to drive it, get some all seasons. I've had Conti Xtremes and put on over 15k miles so far with them and they dont even seem to have been worn much and i drive those all seasons hard!

Gas is different to each car. The best i ever got was 26 mpg but on average its like 23-24 mostly driving on freeway if your moving a good speed. Traffic sucks if you get stuck a lot. The honda is gonna be awesome to drive a lot on freeways also with the gas mileage factor. Honda's usually get 30+ if not 30 straight up.

I love my evo to death but the ride isnt the most comfortable if i had to drive it all the time like you mention. I'd take my 350Z all day any day on a roady over the evo. Its just not built to be a commuter. Its just not although ppl do it and thats there gig. Power to ya but if you have options, get an older 96+ civic and get the evo for your fun car. You'll enjoy it non the less.

Good luck
