Just unplug the (+) side of the battery and let it sit for a few minutes. After plugging the battery cable back in, make sure you start the car up and let it idle for a few minutes.

Is this right?

I thought the proper procedure for disconnecting a battery was to start by disconnecting the negative (-) first?

It's the negative post not the positive. Actually you really don't have to do anything. The ecu will read all the parameters and re-adjust. Not reall a "big" bolt on. But I would do it anyway.....it won't hurt.
