front end noise

Two days ago i pulled into a parking garage and when i turned my wheel to the right sharply I heard a low sounding noise in the front left wheel well area. sounds like a midget taps the inside of the well with a rubber mallet.. lightly not hard.

it's been happening intermittently when i turn the wheel to the right and one once or twice on straight roads when going over some not so nicely paved road.

I've never heard the sound before and it's winter and i have hit some more large potholes recently. I have no idea what it is, and it doesn't happen everytime I turn the wheel to the right, just sometimes.

any ideas? thanks in advance

My IX does this when pulling away from a dead stop, or turning the wheel in the morning pulling out of the garage. Does it 20% of the time. I think its just the cheap car noise.

I don't know though, because I've never heard it before. I just got back from lunch and a guy in my back seat heard it too. A friend and I as going to jacket the car up and check stuff out after work, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this.

My IX kinda make a lil crackling noise when turning the wheel from a dead stop, only sometimes though, wondering if ne-one is experiencing this. juss picked up the car a few days ago, so kinda getting worried.

Well, I dont think its causing a problem, I have a small feeling I get the same noise. I guess we'll find out soon enough if cars start breaking and we get a recall or cars start breaking and there is no recall(damn mitsubishi).

check your plastic trim. Mine was loose and it made some rattling noises at low speeds.

I can tell you what it is right now.. you have an '03 right?

makes a weird noise when making slow turns ( in my case turning left, in yours right)

its either the axle ( had the left one replaced 6 mos ago- and the noise stopped, now the right one just went apparently) Only this time when the dealer replaced my front right axle under warranty, I pick up the car, and its making the SAME NOISE.
Take it back and they tell me its the struts.
I confirmed this with my mechanic.. took it apart and found my front right strut is broken.

Sorry to break the bad news. Seems to be a common issue with the '03 .. possible later models im not sure....

When I make a turn really slowly (1st/2nd gear) and let the clutch out slowly but not all the way, I hear a noise like an old wooden door creaking as it opens (or perhaps an old stiff spring). But the car runs fine otherwise (handles great, accelerates great, etc.).

So far I'm just attributing it to break in (or perhaps the cold weather) but when I go to get my plates from the dealer I'll ask about it.

My previous 03 always made the noise in below 40 temps, always in the left front.Strut being the culprit. The IX is always quiet.

There is another thread like this one, with a whole mess of replies. Seems to be fairly common at the least. Not sure of that good to hear or bad though.

My 04 did the same thing, sounds like the steering rack or the struts when it turns.
