Gauges and gauge panels?
I want to install some gauges in my car and am not quite sure on what set-up to go with. I would like these: boost, oil temp, and oil pres.- or should I get different ones? I already relocated my radio and was going with 42dd kit with stewart warners but thought i'd look for others. But I got a few questions about gauges and panels.
1. Are all gauges made equal? I mean are they all of equal quality regardless of price? Not all the functions it may have. How do you know?
2. Are there any nice gauges that won't be overly expensive? I like the way the Defi's look but too much imo.
3. Is there a panel that will have the gauges pointed towards the driver? Besides the Craig Hardey/Helix one?
4. Does the craig hardey panel come in 52mm? I have only seen 60mm.
5. What are some 60mm gauges?
-Defi
-SAGA
6. Post pics of your gauge setup I'd like to see.
- I was thinking of getting blue/white lit gauges instead of red because it's more pleasing to my eyes and I might make my cluster blue/white. Oh you I would also like psi instead of bar's.
Thanks

You get what you pay for. You spent a ton of money to buy the car so don't go cheap and buy bad parts. Shop around and maybe even email the manufaturers to see if they offer a warenty. I will be putting some guages in my car as soon as this Wisconsin winter lets up some so i dont have to freeze to death. Im going with guages that match my oem evo guages.
I have the 42 draftdesign panel with Defi D series, boost, oil temp and pressure gauges. Only thing I dont like is that its not angled towards the driver. Other than that it matches the color of the dash perfect, fits like a glove and the gauges are close to the backlighting (I changed my dash lights to red).
i have the same panel and already had Auto Meter gauges in my pocession prior to installing the kit from my eclipse. Defi has some sweet gauges and yes your right.. they are a bit pricey, but think of it this way. This is your cars vitals..... would you want a doctor or hospital using some cheap equipment on you if your life was in there hands?? HELL NAH!! haha... good way to try and offset the cost you put in on gauges.
I have my boost gauge mounted over the steering column. I think as I get more gauges, I might go up the a-pillar with them. I have been using Autometer gauges. I was thinking about going with something a more expensive like Defi just to see if the extra cash is worth it. Honestly though, Autometer gauges have worked just fine for me, and most of them are well priced.

I noticed a definite improvement in responsivness going from Autometer to Defi.
I have had both an hks and an autometer and a defi knockoff in my car and they all seemed to be identical. This is for a boost gauge. I think if you are going for quality/price/and looks, then autometer is the answer. Nobody can deny how great defi/hks/etc. are though. Stewart Warner also makes incredible gauges that match the itnerior quite nicely.

There is a few pics throughout this thread. They are made by hand. He does do one's that are angled toward the driver, however I'll have to post that later only because I thought I had the pic on that thread.

I like my SPA Technique dual-digital gauges. If I had to do it again, however, I'd probably build in a micro-dash with lap timing -- something like the one SPA makes or an AiM MXL.
Here's an old-school Saab angled gauge holder that might work in the EVO's DIN slot:

What other gauges are made in 60mm?
