Thinking about getting a new car..

I've been driving my wrx for about a year now, and am getting hungry for power. The two cars on the top of my list are the STi and the EVO. Both are fantastic cars, and part of me wants to stick with the Subaru heritage. The other half has always dreamed of driving an EVO, pretty much ever since the first Gran Turismo. I'm just curious what known problems have occured with the EVO? Any things just totally plague them? I am aware of Mitsu's completely evil warranty department, but it sounds like they are only really bad in specific cases. I am excited to hear back, and find out waht these things are all about.

You are going to get lambasted with criticism for not using the search page. However, the clutch seems to be the weakpoint if you go any higher than stock power levels. Warranties only get bad if you have a ****ty dealer, otherwise you can usually get coverage.

There seems to be no more problems with the current release. Most of the problems occured in 03-04.

I could just tell you to use the button labeled "search" right now but I wont, a major thing you'll hear about the evo is the clutch going out...so do you want a mod friendly car or plan on staying stock?

Honestly it depends what you want out of your next car. The STi/STI would probably be more comfortable for you as an upgrade. But if your looking for a lot of power with not a lot of money spent, then the EVO is the car for you. Yes the STi/STI can make really good power, but not as cheaply as the EVO can.

I had a silver 03' rex and i miss it... if you do upgrade def get an evo dont get the same thing (even though its an STI) and for god's sake dont get blue.... also consider keeping what you have ...you will feel the best about that decision...

Lol you could use the search button. OR you could sit here in the forums for a year and read all the "bad sh*t happend to my evo" threads. haha

I'd have to say the Clutch is the worst part of the car. From the last year of reading about it. =P

I was all ready to plunk down my money to buy an STI. Drives wonderfully, handles well, very light clutch, great gearshift. Overall a great daily driver. Subaru's reliablity reputation is also much better than Mitsubishi's.

A week before doing that, I decided to humor myself by driving an Evo. It blew my mind. If you've ever driven a Ferrari, or Porsche, you know what I'm talking about. Insane amounts of feedback from all the controls, steering, brakes and even the suspension's and chassis's attitude.

Don't get me wrong, the STI is a great car, and a much much better daily driver (clutch is lighter, steering is less insane), but if you're ready to give up all your creature comforts and drive the most insane thing that's street legal for under 80k, pick the Evo. Otherwise, I'd still say that most people are better off with the STI.

It all depends on how hardcore you really are.
