Not Sure If Turbo Went Bad,hopefully Someone Knows??

I was cruising with my brother tonight and all of a sudden his car started backfiring a little bit. When this happened I could see some blue flashes out of the exhaust. He drives a 97 eclipse gsx. The mods are front mount intercooler, exhaust, and recently it was fully built. Lately it has been boosting way higher than normal(like 23lbs when it is on the stock 14lb level). When the stalling happened the factory boost gauge stopped working and will not move at all, but the aftermarket boost gauge reads that it still builds boost. The car feels really sluggish and takes a while to build boost but eventually does. The engine light turned on also. I think the turbo is going bad because of course it is really old and lately the exhaust has been spitting out some smoke when I get on it. If anyone has any ideas let me know.thanks

Sounds like if it is blowing smoke and taking a long time to spool or not even spooling then either your turbo seals are going or you have a boost leak somewhere. Good luck.

check the Crank angle sensor. mine went bad on my 98GST. same type of issues. it would sputter and throw a flame about three feet out my Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust. it was spectacular, but didnt run right. the CEL would illuminate also. get a pocketlogger or a code reader to check the code.

like he says above, you could also have a boost leak somewhere also. blown a lower hose off the piping...
