What ever happened to....

What ever happened to salesmanship ? So i am in the process of spending $2000 dollars for some mods, nothing new. But i call some "companies" and ask them to sell me their product, you know tell me why theirs is the right one or the best one for me, and thats when the pause comes. From my experience so far no one is either willing to, or able to, tell me to much about their product. In order to figure out what is the best for me i would like to know a little bit about their product and their competition but most people are just vendors no salesmen. I just want the best for my car but i am finding that the "experts" aren't to expert at all. So tell me how can you sell a priduct when you don't know much about it , and how can you tell me its the best when you don't know anything about your competition ?

I'm sure most of the people that go and buy mods from vendors have allready done quite a bit of research on what they want, and what is best for their car. I wouldn't want some salesman trying to sell me something for my car that I don't need!

Everything seems to be moving online. These compaines no longer have a store front where they have to convience others to buy their product, they now go by online sites and word of mouth. I do agree i miss the "Salesmanship" you can get going to a real store, but its nice to do my own research b/c people do lie, but results(dynos) don't.

I went thru alot of PM's and phone#'s trying to buy some cams. It took days to get replies and lots of phone calls. Seems like there is one person selling per company.

Thanks for the plug

Just to put your mind at ease, we're not "salesmen" per se. We're EVO owners and enthusiasts who just happen to be selling EVO products Feel free to give us a call or stop by anytime.

Wow, amazed to see someone who wants a salesman!

Defenition of a salesman: someone paid to feed you a line of bull $hit in order to get you to buy as much of his product (preferably from the high profit / low cost portion of the inventory) that he can weather the product he is selling suites your needs or not.

Think about your car buying experiance.... did the salesman know anything about cars? Or did he know about people? If he is a good salesman he knows absolutly nothing about cars, and a whole boat load about people.

I would rather deal with a vendor instead of a salesman any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

You will find plenty of great vendors on EVOM who are honest about what they sell, but for the most part let the products sell themselves based on informantion available all over the site. You will also find salesman on EVOm.... they spend time badmouthing other peoples products and hyping up their own often with missleading tests, retoric, and fanboy based goon squads used to barge in on other threads by reputable vendors that they consider competition.

HEy, hey, hey, I'm a salesman (No Limit) and I dont do what you just said. On numerous occasions I have sent people away looking for parts that I do not carry. I dont badmouth many products, but there are some things That I believe to be junk and I vocally express it. But if I dont have something in stock, i'll even tell the person on the phone where they can get it as long as there is no bad blood with the other vendor. most car salesman suck though, that is definitely true.

Aux, why do you need a salesman after the many hours we've spent discussing mods since you first got your Evo? After all that, you still don't know what you should get and where to get it?

As always War you make a great point. I don't know what i am looking for right now (per se) to tell you the truth. Maybe i miss labled the individuals that i am talking about. Let me put it like this, i am tired of vendors not knowing enough about their product. Yeah if i were new to this i wouldn't understand that vendors can make proposed HP gains and say the actuall gain was subjective to the car but everyone is subjective. I want objective information not a load of crap, fourdoor your right. I don't mean salesman as in the individual who will push crap out of his mouth like a third rate frat boy spoutting d*ck and fart jokes ( i definitly can do without that ) like they're funny but rather someone that knows what is good and isn't. War i know you have sponsors but i have always found what you say to be truthfull aside from loyalty. But when no one wants to tell you whats the truth about product because of their "margin" it truly sucks.

I mean if you read my post and questions you can see that i am in the works of going AMS with my power kits, but they're expensive. I mean i am willing to spend the dollar for the part, but i want results not a 25 -75 lbs paper weight. I have gone through my "Newbie" experience too. Have you seen what its like on that search screen. Anyone that has the name of what you type in in their thread/bio/mods list/actual worth while post is listed. I know, i know.... if i want to spend the money i should do the research, but shouldn't we be able to call a vendor and get the same results without scrolling through pages of information?

Now mind you i have had 1 PM from a vendor who actually stood tall the the "challenge" i through down with my request for help ( no loyalty but i'll drop a name RnR ). I also here good stuff about Works, but who knows... they could be "salesmen".

I would consider you a great vendor rather than a great salesman, just my personal view, and my dislike of the "salesman" on evom was not directed at you

I still don't understand, Aux. Why would vendors spend their time explaining to you why someone else's parts are good? Their whole point in life is to know their product and convince you to buy it. Even if they KNOW details about other products that may or may not be superior, it doesn't behoove them to spend their time telling you that. Why do you not rely on the information you've found here from me and others? You already know how to get the most power for the least money in a safe and reliable manner, but you're still trying to get vendors to explain things to you? I don't understand at all.

The AMS stages aren't "better" or worth the extra money, but you know that. Parts are parts and mods are mods. In the early stages, they are all pretty equivalent, so you should get the best of what's available without paying extra mark-up for no reason. For instance, Works makes high quality stuff, but it's disgustingly expensive, so it depends on what you want to do. Don't rely on vendor salesmen to guide you...
