Interesting. I wasn't expecting such a quality (and lengthy) read from Edmunds. I'm glad they used a regular IX, instead of an MR also and even more suprised that an SSL was still able to dick on the STi.

It was cool that the defeated the clutch dump restrictor on the Evo.

They actually gave props to the SSL's upgraded stereo (which is pretty good.)

And they question Subaru's 300hp rating, awesome.

yeah either the STI is over-rated or the evo is quite a bit under-rated.

I don't know about this one guys.......how the hell did the sti only get 5.4 sec or whatever it was in the 0-60. Both cars should be doing 4.5-4.8 sec 0-60 runs. I personally think the evo is the better/faster car of the two but come on the sti should be closer in performance then what was tested by edmunds. I had a 04 sti before my IX and it wasn't slow by any means, my first impression of my sti was it felt faster than my stage IV wrx. This test seems odd to me.....the sti should have posted better times.

Come on guys, let's not get too cocky in here. It's actually nice that we have STI folks reading along with us. I enjoy going over to their forum as well to see what's up.

He's got some good points regarding the article that do make some sense.

No matter though, both cars rock.

Both the EVO & STI are solid performers. Great article and post!

The STI guys are saying that they have to shift twice to get to 60mph. Can you get there in 2nd gear in the EVO? Or the MR?

So what? 0-60 time is how fast the car can get there, the whole car as it sits, not the potential acceleration of the engine if it were placed in some theortetical chassis and drivetrain.

If those close gears had helped the STi win on a roadcourse challenge, they wouldn't be calling them a hindrance.

They weren't really complaining, they just brought it up which made me wonder about the EVO's gears.

true, but then again 60 is an arbitrary end point. in an alternate universe they probably measure 0-51 mph or 0-73 mph. similarly, whether the sti's gearing is an advantage or disadvantage on a roadcourse depends just as much on the track layout as it does on the car.
