What comes stock on the Evo 8

I went and looked at Mitsu's website, and did the "build your evo" option, and it seemed like it was haphazardly thrown together. As well as my suspicions were confirmed when i went to the local mitsu dealer and saw their sticker prices on the car.

To me, it looks like the dealers are marking up for pieces that come stock on the car, like brake ducts, front air dam, wing, front and rear shock tower braces, so on and so fourth.

Is this legally possible? Making customers pay 2x for something that comes stock on the car?

I mean, when i was in Australia and New Zealand, i got to drive an Evo 7 and other cars, and when i saw the Evo, all those parts were stock. Nothing was extra.

From my understanding the USDM Evo 8 is really just an Evo 7 RS with cosmetic changes.

The dealership can certainly charge you for accessories added to the car.

The only factory options on the Evo (the ones listed on the manufacturers MSRP window sticker) are the wing and the sunroof.

Pieces like the brake air (ducts) deflectors and rear shock tower brace are optional accessories. There is also an optional upgrade front strut bar that replaces the stock steel one. So if your dealership is trying to charge a premium for that part, be sure it's the upgraded one, and not the stock part.

Everything is standard except for the wing (which appears to be standard but is listed as an option), sunroof, Ralliart pedals, gauge set, wheel locks, etc.

Re: What comes stock on the Evo 8

The items you refer to are not stock on a U.S. Spec Evo 8 so referring to your experience with a Aussie-spec Evo 7 (different car, different market) is irrelevant. Any items a dealer adds to a car over and above the equipment on the vehicle as it comes from the factory the dealer is naturally going to want to charge for. Also, the prices you see on Mitsubishicars.com will not be the same as what the dealer charges because just as it says on Mitsucars.com the prices on the web DO NOT INCLUDE INSTALLATION.

It looks like you need to find a different Mitsubishi dealer. I bought my Evo at normal MSRP with no options/markups.
I would guess you may find the same thing happens with the STI as well. A dealer may say he sells to you at MSRP, but that doesn't mean he won't add on every accessory before the car hits the showroom and try and charge close to $40k.
I bet most dealers will add a $2000 stereo to the STI when they can.

My complaint is not with the markup, i know that will be an issue with any new car. But i fully expect to walk in an get an Evo 8 for MSPR with things like the wing, front air dam, and brake ducts already installed from the manufacturer. These arent upgrades, these are stock parts.

I agree...especially with the freaking brake ducts. I mean, it is a RALLY car, right?? Argh.

You never said what the sticker price was on the car you saw in the dealership.

Also, when you say brake ducts are you talking about the "Brake Cooling Air Guides" because they are a seperate item. They don't have the picture of them on the web site but they are placed underneath the car not the openings in the front.

Dude, do you know what it is that you are talking about? If not, I would make sure you do before going into a dealership and start demanding things. You'll sound like an uninformed fool unless you know 100% that you are complaining about parts of the car that are infact dealer added accessories.

When you say "brake ducts", what are you talking about? Are you talking about the dealer installed accessory that defects air towards the brake calipers, and is installed onto the lower suspension arms? Or are you talking about the undercarriage aerodynamic cladding, which also had air ducts that lead air to the brakes? One is a integral standard part of the cars areo package, the other is an accessory.

And what do you mean by front air dam? Are you talking about the little winglets that mount under and to the sides of the air opening in the front of the car? If yes, these are dealer added accessories. Or are you talking about the piece of ABS plastic body kit at the bottom of the front fascia, that is colormatched to the car and is a standard part of the car?

The wing is a factory option and will be shown as such on the Monroney sticker. The "front air dam" is a standard factory item but the "air dam corner extensions" (or whatever they are called) are a dealer-installed accessory, as are the brake ducts on a U.S. spec Evolution. That's why you won't see them listed on the Monroney.
