I just hope the '07 USDM STi gets the same power tweaks that the European and Japanese versions will get. I've heard rumors of a smaller hot hatch STi too, but I've also heard rumors that the X will now NOT be offered as a hatch in the US. Will Subaru bother bringing a hatch to the US if Mitsu beats them to market with the X and decides NOT to offer it in a hatch trim for the US? Only time will tell. Both cars handle so well right now that I think adding horsepower and/or throwing more technology at the drivetrains (paddle shifter, AYC, etc) is where MOST people will notice the gains.
BTW...I dug this up off www.IWSTI.com if anybody is interested.
The changes to the suspension between the '04 and '05 STi models...
- larger wheel hubs and bearings
- larger wheel bolt circle diameter (from 5x100 in 2004 to 5x114.3 in 2005)
- 17x8 wheels (17x7.5 in 2004)
- 1 inch wider rear track
- 3-point rear suspension crossmember
- aluminum rear suspension lateral links
- helical limited-slip front differential (Suretrac LSD in 2004)
The changes to the suspension between the '05 and '06 STi models...
- Addition of a steering sensor input to the DCCD All-Wheel Drive system enhances power distribution response by more accurately relaying the car’s cornering situation.
- Addition of new mechanical limited slip differential to the DCCD. Enhances torque transfer and overall performance of the AWD system.
- Default torque split is now 41:59 front/rear (was 35:65 F/R)

Competition drives the market, without it, we wouldn't have the cars we have today, or at least they wouldn't be as good. I own an '05 STi and I give thumbs up to STi's and Evo's alike, and the same goes for them.
I can't wait to see what Subaru has in store for competition with the X, I bet it will be a beautiful car.
The point is, we all own awesome cars (STis and Evos), maybe on the surface we like the competition between eachother, but deep down, I think we all respect one another's cars.

I agree with the last post, and although I am also a sti owner, these two cars need each other, like the mustang needed the camaro for all those years. There will always be someone saying the other is crap, again, just like a ford guy vs. a chevy guy, and the manufactures love it. However, if you are a true car buff, you can appreciate both. I love my sti and love the evo. As stated before, there is pros and cons to each. When I bought my sti, it was going to be my daily driver, but now it is more my weekend warrior. If I was going to do it all again, I may have gone for a IX RS. But then I would be missing that boxer sound. It would be a tough choice, but atleast we have a choice to make...right?
EVO IX kills the STI 06 in every test. EVO IX is very very smooth and a lot torqier than the STi. in fact the EVO has less lag now than the STI with its 2.5 engine and smaller turbo. Even stock for stock the EVO is much more fun and almost half a second faster.

as far as evo X sharing of platforms. what's the big F'in deal? i don't get u ppl. if mitsu designs that chassis and sells it to some other company, it gets more profits, period. oh no, it must be beneath ur rally car holyness that some neon will have the same platform. so F'in what, the evo's version of it will still be stronger and more reinforced. get over it. and as far as the evo X tranny, it WILL have clutches, 2 of them. it just won't have the clutch pedal. that tranny will shift FASTER than the M3 sequential gearbox. the smaller clutches might not handle as much power though. so driving that car on the track will be faster, but for regular joe-backroad-driver it won't be as fun.
I couldn't even get inside an 06 STi to even look at the interior cause the new exterior scares me. I had an 05 STi and traded it for an 04 SSL EVO. I like the black leather interior a lot better than the blue and pink... though the STi does "look" a little better in the quality, but its all plastic regardless.
I'm sure Subaru will be out to get the EVO X. But I think both cars will be ugly. I def. dont like the concept EVO X. and the way the impreza is looking I doubt it will get any better.
As far as peformance.. they will always be neck and neck.. has been that way for years and years. As far as choosing goes, you need to know exactly what you want in a car.. then go drive them both.

I should have called this thread something else. It's attracting the wrong type of responses.
Anyways I'm concerned that Subaru hasn't touched the USDM STi's power since it got here in late '03 while, in the same amount of time, Mitsubishi has increased the Evo's power 3 times. I've always felt it's been a tit-for-tat type of rivalry with these car's designers. If one of the two stops pushing the envelope I believe the other will follow suit. Like somebody said earlier, they may be rivals but they NEED each other in order to survive.

I just sat in a new evo two weeks ago and I thought the new IX interior is much improved in appearance and quality. I didn't think there was that many changes from an 05 model, but there seemed to be a difference. However, I didn't care for the feel of the leather seats, they didn't seem as supportive as the cloth seats. So I don't think there can be as much as a debate about the sti interior being better anymore. Although that is only my opinion, kind of like edmunds opinion being the evo is a better car than a sti.
