Insurance with wrecked mods?

What happens if I wreck my car and my aftermarket parts are destroyed: e.g. Race FMIC, Injen intake and upper ICP, Buschur TBE, 20G-9, ACT clutch, engine w/2.3 stroker kit and 272 cams?

I assume insurance won't pay for new aftermarket replacements, but if my stock parts are sold, does insurance cover replacement with new stock parts? Will they say, "Sorry but the parts that were destroyed weren't stock parts so we won't replace those, and we don't cover aftermarket stuff."

Is that a reason to keep the stock stuff?

honestly they probably won't even know the turbo, cams and stuff like that are different unless it was obvious like the shiny intake. To answer your question they will try to price match the aftermarket parts as best they can unless you have a receipt for your purchases.

I think you may have to pay extra money to insure aftermarket parts such as Sterio, or performance mods. I could be wrong tho

So if I understand: to cover the aftemarket stuff I pay extra, but if I don't pay extra they'll do stock replacements for damaged aftermarket stuff that the replaced basic (critical) stock stuff (FMIC, exhaust, airbox, etc.)?

Or will they give me nothing because the stock stuff was gone at the time of the accident (without the extra insurance)?

Pretty much, but it will vary from company to company. Some insurance companies will deny the entire claim if they think you changed your car too much (especially if you are at fault for the accident).

Think about if from their perspective: you sell insurance to a guy for a car that produces just under 300 hp. Then he files a claim for the wrecked car, and you see modifications that easily add 200 hp. And the sad part is they don't even have to prove anything (unlike if the dealer voids your warranty).

This would be especially true of someone who does something to change ANY safety aspect of their car, such as lowering the ride height. Imagine getting into a nasty head on wreck and they determine that you lowered your car, thereby reducing your front bumper and crumple zones effectiveness.... now they won't cover your $15,000 in medical bills!
