BLAH for VTA
so yeah ill come out and say it, i was one of those idiots who bought the hks when i first got my evo and man do i regret it. i had never noticed it being that bad other than coming to a stop where it might sputter etc.. recently though (i doubt it has anythign to do with it but i ran an open downpipe, no second O2, but its back on now) it threw a code so i scanned it and it came up with 4 ugly codes. 1.Multiple Misfires 2. High IAT 3.Low MAF input circuit 4.Low MAP BARO. WHAT THE HELL? could this be because of the VTA or could it just be the lack of second O2 sensor catching up with me a lil late? regardless i am no doubt getting a recirc kit for my bov cuz i dont wanna deal with this anymore. Thanks in advance for input and opinions
the only thing that worries me about it being the O2 is ive heard the O2 after the cat has no actual affect on the closed loop a/f system and that it merely is there to make sure the cat is doing its job for emissions standards. ive heard of many people running open down pipes at tracks which i dont understand if it would run like caca. but then again i dont know anything that would set off that many MAF related codes
would the bogging and misfires in fifth gear on the freeway be related to VTA? i know the stalling and low idle is a common problem but i dont know about the misfires and bogging. sorry im not trying to question you i just wanna find out what the hell is up with my car

The misfires are a common problem regardless. You may not be able to get rid of those. Try searching around for that code, and I'm sure you'll see what I mean. You'll probably find solutions as well. Yes, the misfires and bogging are related to venting to atmosphere. The ECU doesn't know that all the air it metered through the MAF isn't making it into the combustion chamber, so it's sending fuel as though the air were there. You run super rich for an instant, and if your car isn't stalling then it certainly should bog heavily at very least.
