The EVO X is going to move upscale. The X is going to do battle with the new Skyline thats being released under the Infinity badge for Nissan.

I'm guessing that means much more electronic crap on the interior, better sound dampening, less road noise, no racing buckets.

All the things that make your car go slower...

where do i download the video coverage??? @.@ i miss WRC...

[edit] found some.

I think the X will still have the buckets. =\ Mitsu doesn't want ppl to complain that the seats don't hold them in with the new S-AWC installed on the X would they. =P

My Post

First off I want to thank you all especially all you people outside the USA with all the information you provide. Many Americans, including myself are unaware of all the groups of rally racing due to lack of coverage here in the states. We are lucky to get WRC. Some of you I feel missed my point. Its true Mitsubishi is sitting out for 2006 in WRC as is with other companies, but what you don't realize, is and this is new, that they are for sure not going back till at least 2008, and even that is a Maybe. That is the new news, that they may not go back at all due to financial reasons. The point I was trying to make is, with the X Mits may try to go a different route with the Evolutions series of cars available to us here in the USA. Instead of bringing us the Rally Car, weather its a street version or not, they may just use the namesake to try to keep the enthusiasts glued, while toning the car down to intise the mature and older crowd. Mits being in a finacial strain may feel that volume cars will save them vs. specialty cars like the Evolution. Again my point is, the 9 I feel is really an end to era, there has been no other evolution series that didn't evolve from a rally heritage. Now, a new car is being developed with no current racing technologies. This kinda of hints at where mits may or may not go with the EVO. If you are not going to race anymore, then just produce a luxory sport car like an ALteeza, or IS350. I feel that is what is going to happen, throw on the EVO name, to give it some credit worthiness and wa la, a new image. I may be reading into it too much, but fromthe pictures I have seen, in and out of the new car, do you really feel that they can produce a car like that and keep it in the current price range? I doubt it. Secondly, that new automatic tranny? Damn thats 10g's buy itself....so really expect a $40-50K Evo in the future. Will the X be a nice car? Sure it will, will it be fast, sure it will, will it handle good? Sure it will, I just feel it isn't going to be "Rally" and to me that is one appeal of this Incredible car.

+1

Mitsubishi will be back in '07 or '08

EDIT: check the link in my sig if you like WRC as much as me!

My .02,

It kinda sucks that Mitsu dont have a WRC team, but they have EVOs still in rallies, which is all that really matters.

I know that the EVO is a rally bred car and has won a lot of rallies, but I've always felt the EVO was of more of a track/ tarmac car. I've had a WRX and it felt a little bit better then the EVO on a rally-like mountain road.

With that said, I believe the X will be great, but will be more track/tarmac orientated (sp). I will probably get a X, because most of the time I drive tarmac, not a rally road.

Last, even though some sources say that the new Skyline GTR will be badged as a Infinity, but I don't think that will be the case. I think it will be a Nissian, because everyone knows it as a nissian and Nissian want the world to know that its THEIR car.

I'm a WRC fan and a fan. I don't see any point in speculating about 's future plans. We'll see what happens as it unfolds. If they want to take the Evo in a new direction, that's up to them. We'll all have to decide individually whether to follow them or not, but without details like actual US-market specs and prices, we're just wasting our time.

BTW, folks make a lot of 's WRC involvement and the credibility it gives the Evo. That's pure marketing crap. The WRC car--'s especially--bears very little resemblance to the showroom Evo. What does give the Evo credibility is Group N, where the cars are actually pretty close to the production model, and dominates.

I guess we will just have to enjoy the pro rally here in the states until they get things sorted out over there. I know they will come back and when they do, Mitsu will bring some mad competition!

My Post

All you Rally Fans outside the USA can you provide some links so I can get more information on the Group N racing. Also, would love some more photos of the IX in Rally Trim, we just don't get to see this in the USA. I also wondered, why is it that the USA IX has the VIII rear bumper and the Euro version has the new updated bumper. I can't imagine they couldn't make the new one meet our crash test standards. Also, why is it the Front Headlights on the USA version is different than the EURO version? Notice that, how the bottom part of the lens is clear on the USA version and yellow on the Euro? I don't get that. haha.......Anyway thanks guys and gals........Jeff
