Experienced something new in the Evo.....

Well, took the Evo out on Saturday after being trapped in DC all week for work. Went up to the local hang-out for gear-heads, and stopped for a few gallons of the ole 100oct.

As I am sitting there, I notice the usually clutter of F-body and stangs, all hanging and talking about the latest Viper/Ferrari kill.

As I am pumping gas, a whole slew of guys walk over, and I figure to myself, here it comes..... .

They all start jawing about Evos and the Black and Silver Evo from AMS, and the crazy HP numbers they have put up. Then, as one of then walks to the front of my car for me to pop the hood, you hear "Oh Sh*T!!". He noticed the 'small' racing AMS intercooler on the front of the car. All of a sudden, it is like I am one of the muscle car guys, minus the other 4 cylinders. Of course, I thew around some of the names from AMS, but after they saw all the parts on the car, it was no doubt who prepped the car.

I ended up hanging with then for some time shooting the bull, and a few even asked for rides. Unfortunately, I don't make the crazy numbers they do, but I took then down an ole airport road, with some turns to show then how cornering is 'supposed' to happen with my AMS *(JonK) prepped suspension.

I tried to snap some pics, because they have a row in back where the 'hottest' cars park, and they immediately had this guy move his 94 GT, which was NICE, to pull the Evo in front facing out of course, to show off the AMS logo.

The absolute high-light was when all the Civic/other imports would pull through, they would all start bashing on 'rice' this and 'rice' that. I immediately said, not all imports are rice, pointing back to the Evo, to which one of the guys who road in the car said, it ain't rice if it goes, stops, and turns like that monster does.

Finally, I feel I have moved out of the 'rice' class in my town.....how nice it is...

I think what it is, is that when the evo first came over the water to the mainland it has been labled as the typical rice. But can you really blame the good old u s of a. A huge wing, a giant hole in the hood and 4 doors. But now that the car has been here and proven itself in numerous events, people really know what the car is now... dont worry its just people loving the cars like u do.

Amazingly after 3 years of being in America the Evo still has a lot to prove Thank god there are shops (like AMS) out there getting the potential of the car so well known that often we don't have to spend 1/2 hour explaining to people how our cars are actual performance machines! Good story, and I'm glad it's becoming more and more common!

its true. I've had mine for over 2 years now, and in the beginning everyone with a V8 mustang or even a V6 would rev at me and call it rice, etc. and fly by like they were the fastest thing since vin diesel.

now I see them and a lot are still that way, but you can tell the actual car guys who drive the domestics give you thumbs up and stuff like that. It's definitely nice to have people finally begin to understand what the car is a bit.
