Just ordered APR Splitter

hi, i just ordered the APR splitter and was wondering if there is anything i can do to secure that splitter to the bumper better. Reason i m asking that because i heard some people had their splitter rip off the bottom lip at high speed so that got me little worried. Any help will be appreciated.

follow the directions carefully.....use the factory bolt to your underside tray. Personally, I wouldn't get it. The customer service really sucks from APR and plus you wil have to drill holes on your bumper. Just get a decent lip. My 2 cents.

If your worried about high speed then I suggest you buy a better splitter, its aluminum --- http://www.autovationparts.com/store/product190.html

164mph and it stays on. And its adjustable.

I've seen pics of the CF splitter deforming/pulling away from the body at high speeds (100-120mph).

I love the idea of an aluminum splitter, but looking at the pictures the splitter looks like it is way to high to be very functional. Notice it looks like it mounts BETWEEN the bumper and the lower lip, not UNDER the lower lip.

I thought the whole purpose of the splitter was to limit as much as possible the amount of air going under the car. This creates a low pressure under the car and creates downforce. If the splitter is too high it is going to push MORE air under the car. I wonder if Autovation actually tested with telemetry or data acquisition to see how much downforce (or upforce) their piece created.

Doubt APR or Autovation has done any scientific testing. I can say though that my top speed was lower with the Autovation splitter as shown in the pics, I cut mine down a bit, so that in itself tells me it was producing effective downforce. So even though its mounted 1 inch (or so) higher, its way more effective than one that deforms and separates at a high speed.
But yes you're right, it's design is to lower the amount of air under the car, ie, put more air over the car to increase downforce. (and more air into the intercooler )

Sorry for hijacking your thread Mooshu I've seen a pic on here somewhere where someone put four support rods on their APR splitter. And Ive heard of someone using bolts instead of the screws, though it required removal of the whole bumper (which is easy).

Use the hardware that comes with the splitter, don't use the plastic junk that is used to hold the plastic undertray on. I've had no problems with my splitter and I've held a speeds of a 110 with out any problems or any deformities.

Thank you for your input. That is very good information. Just remember though, aerodynamic drag does not equal downforce. Likewise, you can increase downforce without more drag. They are totally independent. You can have one without the other or you can have both.

I am not saying that is the case with this product. It is just that without actually testing for downforce or grip at high speeds you you can't make the assumption that more drag = more downforce.

Go look at my thread "spotted police car evo", you can see the "brackets" i made out of scrap steel and a vice. my Rod bolts kept coming undone, and caused my splitter to rip the lower lip off my front end. these never let that happen, and work great!!! Only you cant adjust them, but then again, WHO needs to adjust them anyhow!!

i dont even have the support rods and my apr splitter was safely attached for half year now. I just used larger washers on both sides, longer screws, drilled 2 extra holes through the bumper. in fact, when i hit a block of ice just a week ago, my STOCK lip ripped off (with the splitter attached to it, of course) and not my splitter.
