Am I crazy?

Some of you might remember me from over a year ago when I was an Evolution VIII owner. Well, I sold it two summers ago, bought a 997S, started tracking my car, and now I miss my Evo again.

I'm thinking of unloading the 911 and picking up an Evo IX RS. While I appreciate the thorough engineering and design of the 911, the cost to maintain it, especially as a road course car, is just stupid compared to an Evo which can easily attain similar results for far less money. As for comfort and convenience, neither are particularly high on my priority list, making the Evo attractive yet again.

Am I utterly insane?

Let me be perfectly frank: Driving around town, the 911 is more enjoyable. It's a better sounding car, the gearshift is smoother, and the overall "experience" coupled with quality of build is vastly superior.

That said, take them out and drive them hard and you would be hard pressed to convince me that the 911 is any faster in any measure I care about.

I once had a '03 evo, gear shifts and ride quality are twice as good with the MR....

I don't think you're crazy, it just sounds like you're more interested in the performance and not so much in the luxury and comfort (where it starts to hit your pocketbook). Drop the 911 and get an MR. You'll probably be happier.

I have driven so many cars since I bought MY IX and I can never give up my Evo, the response and the way it comes out of corners, it's incredible.

if youre askin... then you must be!(crazy).... cost-wise.. EVO... status-wise... PORSCHE... i say if you have money like that... you should be lookin at a variety of cars.. personally, Id try to get my hands on R32 GTR... cheaper than a porsche 911.. even rarer than an Evo... or if you are going Evo... try to find a TME 6.5...

I don't want that much money tied up in cars. I want to buy a second home at the beach within the next year.

I'm not trying to look for something rare or particularly awkward to maintain. The Evo, having owned one, suits my needs well.

I've heard this from multiple sources. I've heard that the engines and drivetrains have been made stronger and more user friendly across the model line-up. The fear of blowing the front differential and the often-crunching gearshifts were a huge turnoff on the VIII for me.

I had a 1997 993 Twin Turbo that I put an autothority stage two kit on along with an andial sports clutch and flywheel. I did a 6000 rpm dump and lit up all four wheels, then the gear box EXPLODED!!!!! It cost me $12,000 to fix it!!!! I sold the car and bought an Evo 9 MR. Porsche parts sure are expensive once the warrenty runs out.

...And this is my concern. God forbid I miss a 4th gear downshift, hit second, and toss my motor into the 10,000 RPM territory. I really don't want my hobby eating away at my savings.

Crazy people don't go running around wondering if they are crazy . I have owned both cars (89 911 & 05 MR). My Evo is a lot more fun IMO.

Your just being analytical, which is perfectly sane. Go get your evo.
