03 Evo VIII vs. 04 Sti

I have a friend that wants to race at the track this spring. He has an 04 Sti with just turbo back and no tune.

By Spring, I will have an AMS turbo back, mbc set to 21, and an SAFC-II tune done with my new wideband.

Assuming even drivers, who will win?

Hmm would be close. The evo sucks stock. You would get cleaned up by the STI stock vs stock.

The title says Evo 7, your signature says Evo 3 and your profile says Evo 8?

That being said your car should be faster with those mods -- however not by much.

at that point it really is a driver's race, with the mods the evo should win, i think you win because you shift one less time than him, the 04 sti is a 6 speed correct? I think considering equal drivers, and with mods, you have the better car and that you should win, but again, if hes a better driver he will win. But you have the advantages.

I raced an 04 STI with my 03 Evo with a AEM Intake, a Stock BOV put in backwards because I am an idiot, a Joe P MBC, and a Buschur SAFCII set to his specs. I pulled the STi by ALOT from a roll, wasn't close. I was running 19PSI.

LOL, I did the same thing one time and it took me forever to figure out what was causing the whooshing sound coming out of my airbox.

With equal drivers, the evo should definately win. I don't know what is up with the STi's, but they just aren't as fast (relatively stock ones, anyways), despite larger displacement and higher bhp. I don't get it, but I love my evo.

I had an STi w/ Utec (custom tune), Intake, and Turboback. I ran 12.7 @ 107.4 with a 1.7 60 ft. You should beat him.

...Stock vs. Stock I have yet to lose to an Evo from a dig or roll...it's a drivers race, I just ended up being the better driver.

all i know is the sti's i've seen run at the local track w/ bolt ons are still in the 13s. I also know that people w/ an open downpipe (stock) and mbc turned to 25psi and a 1.70 60ft have run 12.5xx so in my opinion... if your a really good driver, no contest. If your a decent driver.... welll.... no contest sti's run what? 13.3-13.2 stock and evo's are rated at 13.5-13.4. Turbo back will be a huge gain, especially up top, along w/ more boost and a decent tune, running 11.8 afr on your safc-2. Shouldn't be much of a race. Make a video =] or just go race already, tracks have been open here for over a month hehe

You should beat the sti, not by alot but you should beat him. Its all going to be in the launch and who gets off the line first. Without a tune that car isnt putting down that much hp, and i believe the Sti weighs more than the Evo as well. Dont hold me to that, plus the fact that hes going to be shifting into 5th gear through the 1320 doesnt help much either.
