The hard pipe is designed poorly for the Evo's MAF system. It causes major problems, but instead of questioning it and making us explain it to you, you should go search and see how many threads there are trashing that intake. Many, many people have suffered through having that POS then had to get rid of it. For some reason, people just keep on buying it, though...it's sad really.

What if someone had a mini battery and they couldn't use the stock air box anymore? Then what? Is the cone filter from Buschur a "better" kind of intake than to get the whole K & N intake?

What does a mini battery have to do with the stock air box? It's smaller than the factory battery there should no clearance issues.

From what I remeber it's more an issue with open element filters and the turbulence they cause than the hard pipe. The turbulence confuses the MAF and throws the reading off.

If you HAVE to go to some type of open element filter (as in not just want to because you like the noise) there is a good chance you are making some serious power and should either be tuned to deal with it or have gone to a speed density set up already. I don't know if the open element filter in some type of induction box work any better than ones that are just sitting open in the engine bay.

Yes, but only if tuned for it.

They're smaller overall, but they're usually turned 90-degrees and are so long that they interfere with the stock airbox.

That would make sense so, they provide clearance for IC piping. I thought that most that fit in the tray though.

As I'm leading us further off topic.

Thank you.

So if you're tuned for it then it doesn't matter right? Like from dynoflash?

The reason I asked was cuz I just got my mini battery and it said it will not fit the stock air box. It came with it's own tray. I really didn't believe them so I looked in my engine compartment and see if I could fandango something around you know? But no. You can't. It's just too long.

You could relocate it to the trunk. It help out the weight bias and free up all kinds of room in the engine bay.

Please don't do that just to save room in the engine bay. It causes problems when racing due to certain requirements/restrictions.

I just don't get the appeal of an aftermarket intake on a turbocharged car. Maybe, since it yields decent gains if paired with the appropriate exhaust in a naturally aspirated application, people new to turbocharged cars just assume if "A" then "B". For the money spent on an intake you could have bought a Walbro 255, or a stiffer rear sway bar, or a very nice MBC, or even a pair of decent 6x9 speakers. In terms of "bang for the buck", an aftermarket intake has got to be at the bottom of the list. The best arguments "for intakes" usually consist of space saving issues and visual appeal. As a performance mod they are, at best, miniscule IMHO. Let the flaming begin.
