I was looking at both too, but the HKS is smaller then 3". Plus, someone showed a picture of the muffler up close and it looks like it tapers down much more then that at the very end. I doubt I'll every be making over 650whp - but I still would rather not have to think about upgrading my exhaust later on.

There is also another thread where a guy drives by with a GReddy, and it isn't that loud. It only gets obscene if you are running a test pipe. Even a bigger DP w/cat and Ti combo will be more then tolerable.

I was running a StreetImage carbon heat shield on my VIII. It worked really well and fit like a glove.



I'm using the JDM rear as a heat shield on my IX!

 

that IX MR looks awesome. i have been resisting the urge to buy a JDM rear but its hard every time i see a pic like that.
