Ok people where going to end it here. If your going to go all out what evo would you get.

Ill be posting which one i would get as soon as i see what alot of what you guys or gals have to say.

well i would take the 03-04 evo 8 out because of the trans problems and no front lsd

05 evo 8 and evo 9 is the smart choice IMO

if u dont want to blow a lot of money on tuning ur car and run very low 12's even high 11's the evo 9 is the car to get

but if u got a lot of money to blow on modifications, it s doesnt really matter which one u are getting because in the end it s whoever spend the most money and who has the best tune that will have the faster car.

First off, I would pick the IX becuase of a few reasons: (14y/o btw)

1)They took out that nasty triangle up front
2)Smoked head/tail lamps
3)MIVEC makes the turbo more responsive and reduces the turbo lag
4)New air inlets in the fascia bring more air into the intercooler
5)Closer gear ratios on all models
6)They shed out about 40 lbs out of the body, the wheels, and the valve cover

If you're going to go all out just get a 03', it'll be the cheapest and you're going to replace everything anyway like the turbo, ECU, everything. So that new IX turbo that everyone is raving about will mean nothing because you will replace it, along with everything else they added new. Eventually maybe somone will make a conversion so 03's can swap on the MIVEC head, but if your going all out just go with the cosworth head and build the motor.

I agree. If your bulding an all out race car, no stock running gear will be acceptable no matter what year it is. I would buy a cheap 03' and put all the money into performance.

The IX MR weights the same as VIII MR. On the IX GSR only the wheels are lighter.
Read the bottom of the brocheare (sp) on the page with all the weight comparisons.

It says DO NOT compare weight loss against the pervios lancer generation.

Also, the body (all the aluminum panels) of the IX* and VIII* are the same. The valve cover is also magnisum on the VIII, which is the same as the IX.

* VIII & IX MR & RS - Aluminum roof, fenders & hood
VIII & IX GSR - Aluminum fenders & hood

05 evo gsr, no ssl - because the motor has been out for so many years not only that, there are plenty of mods available for it, also because i said no SSL some of you might think its dumb but no sunroof or woofer in the back for weight reduction and you all know a sunroof adds weight to the car. and as for what the 14 year old kid said about the 9 front thats bull. because i recall hearing its not big enough for an aftermarket intercooler. and from what i seen which evo is AMS putting out 900 plus HP? an evo 8 theirfore i believe the 8 has more capabilities.

This is the route I took. I kinda knew I was going to replace the drivetrain and powertrain so I bought an 03 VIII used about 4 months ago. It only cost me around $22,000 used. I've since done a 2.3, GT35R, Shepherd trans, EMS, etc etc. Including the cost of the car, I have spent about the same $$ that I would have on a new IX.
