Twin-disk clutch for daily driving?
Twin-disk clutch for daily driving?
I've never driven a car with a twin-disk clutch - could someone out there with one explain what it's like to drive one, and say whether or not it would be an OK thing to drive daily (without any problems)? Thanks!

It really depends on how much you drive it on a daily basis. If you're in rush hour all the time, you may not like it as the pedal is slightly harder than stock. You'll start to feel it on your calf after a while in stop and go. Other than that, it's a great clutch.
I just got my clutch replaced yesterday, I went from supersoft(MR clutch) to a Exedy twin clutch. The Exedy Twin disc engages much sooner than the stock MR clutch, right after I got my new clutch I stalled 2 or 3 times because the difference was that great.
The clutch pedal is a bit harder and it engages very soon , almost as you let it go. The car is very driveable. You have to assume that these type of Double disc clutches have much higher clamping force and you will notice that on the pedal.

The pedal pressure on a twin is "usually" lighter then a beefy single. The engagement of a twin can be a little tricky and is something to get used to. The one in my Talon was really grabby but maybe that was just the particular brand (HKS). I'd prefer a single for stop and go and daily driving.
Why do you want a twin? Are you putting out a lot of power?

i have a friend with an 03 bone stock. he uses it to commute 120 miles round trip a day and hits slow and stop and go traffic on the way home for about 15-20 minutes. he went with a excedy twin when his stocker went and loved it on his days off(LOL) but couldnt take the stop and go every day even if it was only 20 minutes. he recentely put a centerforce dual friction with flywheel and he loves it. pedal pressure was better than stock and the engagement is as smooth as stock and holds the power of his stock evo even when getting on it hard. he,s the only evo owner i know with a centerforce in it

picking a clutch is so hard...idk...sometimes i think i should just stock with the stocker...i have almost 7k and its holding up just fine, i dont launch very often anymore....i've had my thrill 15 launch's, so i know my next one will last me quite a whiles since this one is holding up with the abuse i've been giving it, any opinions? or do i just sound lazy because i dont want to do the research to see what will best suite me...right now i'd get a the act hd, because it will do well with the power ill be putting down after im done witht he car, about 370ish give or take...mainly take lol i would do the excedy but i dont think i need all that for a daily driver and since im not going big, theres no point in putting down big bills
I personally plan to beat the **** out of my car, which is as you can tell with my stock going at a mere 5,000 miles, but 65+ launches..
I want something that can withstand the abuse iam gonna give it, and iam pretty sure thats what the ATS Twin Carbon will do.

The reason I ask is because I've had two offers to trade my cars for very nice evos. One has 500whp on a certain tune and has an Exedy twin-disk carbon clutch. The other has roughly 375hp and is on the stock clutch. Obviously there is more to these deals than just that, but that's private info between me and the two individuals
I would be using this as a daily driver...probably not more than 20 miles a day once school is over, but I don't want to get something that will kill me driving everyday. I'm used to hard clutches, but I wasn't sure how hard twin-disks were on you. It sounds like it should be manageable. Thanks guys, you've helped me out a lot.

i had the excedy twin in my 03 320whp as a daily driver and liked it except for the deceleration noise, but i hear the new HDtwin is much quieter and smoother. ihave time to think about a clutch right now i only have 2800 miles on my 06IX BR350#005. i removed the restrictor pill and put on a ss line and it feels great. I wish the stock clutch could hold like 400whp and about 500lb.ft. of tq.
