Quick question about oil change

Hello folks, Yes I've searched but didn't really find an answer. I was changing the oil on my IX MR and I noticed it they didn't use a crush washer/gasket. I used a crush washer I got from the stealership, but I'm wondering if this will do more harm than good? I didn't notice any oil leakeage. Also because of the oil temp sensor for the guage pack, I couldn't use my torque wrench to torque it down to spec. I just hand tightened as much as possible, is that cool? Thanks for the help folks

I would do more than handtighten anything with oil fittings unless you want a major oil leak in the near future.

that's not a good idea....use a wrench to tighten it....if you don't, over time, the vibrations will cause the bolt to come loose...

I couldn't get a socket in there though, the oil temp line was in the way. I could only tighten it as much as I could with an open wrench.

Get yourself a little torque wrench and you won't have a worry in the world about an oil leak. I change my oil every 3000 mile on the dot. And I do it myself LOL

Guys, I have a huge torque wrench that I'd love to use, but the oil temp line is in the way. I won't be able to fit a socket around the bolt unless I want to crush the hell out of the line. Any ideas guys? Please help

you should be okay, if you tighten it enough.....30ft-lbs can easily be done with a wrench/hand....just guestimate....

Buy a crow foot wrench. It looks like an open ended wrench except it is real real short and has a square opening that fits a regular ratchet square "nub". You might need a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer if you are using a 1/2" torque wrench with a 3/8" style crow foot wrench.

When tightening the oil drain plug, rotate the crow foot wrench so that the angle between the torque wrench and the crow foot wrench is 90 degrees. I read somewhere on the net that this torque wrench geek did the calcs and this is the optimum angle to maintain the proper transfer of torque.

Can someone tell me for certain what socket size the oil drain plug is? I know 17mm doesn't fit. I've been using a 3/4" SAE wrench instead, but I would like to buy a proper sized crow foot wrench.

Are you sure the washer is not painted on the oil pan? My first crush washer was black on the edges. else the oil temp gauge was installed at the port and they did not install it.
