maybe a little clutch/tc insurance?

Last season I did horribly at the track, I've been practicing my launhes (biggest issue, thanks again warrtalon for your tips awhile back) and since then I've wen't from just an intake to a custom tbe (megan muffler, no cat) turbo XS mbc set @ 19lbs and as of next week, a fuel pump and mail in tune by Al after which I'll bring it up to 20 or 20.5lbs. At this point, I feel that I've greatly improved my launches and I'm anxiously awaiting my pump so I can send my ecu in, but I still have that concern about blowing something out.

Based on what I've read, although upgrading the clutch would be good, it certainly doesn't protect against tc damage and can expose it to even more force ususally absorbed and/or failed on by the stock clutch. I have this idea... I was going to keep my stock rims for winter use, maybe pick up some blizzaks but now I'm thinking (the tread is fairly worn) that I keep them for the track so that I'll get a little wheel spin as opposed to hop. When I launch at about 5300-5500 I do get a little wheel spin, very little, like a quick swshshhhshh sound and thats it and zero hop then it sticks. Everything feels good. I honestly think that if I were on 18's with new tires it would hop. So my idea about a warn set of "track" tires... does that sound logical?

If its the dummest f'ng thing you've ever heard of tell me : o ).

Thanks,
-m
