Lightbulb my two cents on the US bound Evolution

OK, we all now that we are going to see "a version" of the Evolution next year, maybe even later this year.but here is what I think Mitsubishi is planing to do.

I think that by January of next year we are going to get a version kind of like the GT-A (no hood scoops, optional rear wing, smaller intercooler, etc...) to compete with the WRX.

Then later on during the year when Subaru releases their STi is when we'll see a full blown GSR come over.

What you guys think?
Does my reasoning make since?

I think we'll get one model...and it alone will compete with the Sti. I do agree that I think it will be similar to the GTA. No hood scoops, optional big wing, optional Recaros. I think the horsepower will be good but it will be more "refined" for the "mature" buyers that they will target in the U.S. I think it will have the extra insulation and steel exhaust like the GTA does and an optional auto. tranny. Just guessing though. Who knows...we may get the GSR with a higher hp rating of 300+

I hope their is an option for the hood with the scoops at the very least.. way too tame without it IMO.

The hood vents are totally functional. When u have a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, there is a large amount of heat generated. The Evo needs the vents for cooling the engine bay. I can't see why they would remove them...unless it comes over with much less hp than then in Japan.

why would they just bring out a gta? mitsubishi isn't that stupid. Im sure they will offer options if not bring out a full packaged evo......why do you think there hasn't been any speculation from mmsa?

i suppose a decent example would be the 350z.......wasn't it reported to have under 260 and now it has 280.........come on you know mitsu can bring out a 270hp car.

Soleman, The GTA doesn't have the vents. The Evo has plenty of opening in the front end where the turbo and intercooler are. So in other words the Evo doesn't NEED the vents. Read the article on the GTA...the lack of vents makes it more aerodynamic. I would like to see it come with them but there is a chance it won't...there are plenty of ventless GTA hoods produced. Afterall Mitsubishi plans to make 2000 GTA's a month...making it their top produced Evo.

If it doesn't need the vents then why did Mitsu make them functional vents?? A lot of cars have vents on the hood and fenders for looks but they are not functional meaning they are not actually vents that lets air pass into the engine bay.

I agree that a smooth hood makes it more aerodynamic.

I'm not saying they don't help. The vents would help in getting/keeping the enging compartment cooler especially when racing and high rpm's are maintained for a long period of time causing more heat. But they aren't needed..especially not on a street car...just look at the Evo GTA..if they were needed they wouldn't have left them off the GTA.

Needed...probably not, but they can't hurt...a cooler engine bay could prolong the life of wires and hoses. But I am no engineer, so who knows.

My car right now has a 2.0 liter, 1998cc engine...the same size as the Evo's but non-turbo and 140hp stock, not 276. In the summer, when driving for long periods of time in 90 degree weather, my engine bay gets pretty damn hot...I could just imagine how hot the Evo gets, which produces 136 more hp with the same size engine. Thats 4hp shy of double the hp!!!!

There is some sort of EVO informational meeting for the dealers/salespeople this month. I'm guessing we will know something concrete by the end of this month.

Soleman20,

Yep, got the info from my dealer. She's going later this month. I will find out what it was all about when she gets back.

Have no idea if other dealers are involved in this, but I'd assume they have to be. Anybody else hear about this?
