I hate those damn undertray plastic screws

Today, I was taking off the undertray and front bumper to replace some hoseclamps around IC and turbo. The worst part was removing those damn plastic screws on the undertray. I've always been pretty good at removing them on my other cars -by prying a small jewelers screwdriver from the side and the screwing them right out.

But these damn plastic $hits were impossible to remove! The only way I was able to remove them was with brute force. Consequently, a lot of them were damaged. Anyone know a better alternative?

I agree times x1000. It is not worth going and buying them new, they are pricy. I suggest you buy zipties from Home depot and keep them together or not use it at all..

It works sometimes but they get damaged in the process. The screw driver must be extremelly narrow though..

audi has really nice undertray fasteners. There has to be some way to adapt them to fit, somehow. Either that, or use dzus fasteners.

Just buy a Beatrush and your problems are solved.

either just go for an aftermarket undertray or the way i did it was by using a crowbar.. comes out nicely with minimum damage

Leave them off? I know there are some connection points that use metal bolts but its not that many. Won't the undertray flutter around when you're driving?

Anyone leave the undertray off completely?

yea those audi ones are really nice boy they think of everything lol. The thing is they need pressure outwards to unscrew. Audi has it right with the spring inside of theirs. So if you take a flathead screw driver and wedge it behind while unscrewing the middle part it shoudl come out. Otherwise rip it out. lol Goodluck!

I also hate those damn plastic screws. I ended up using a small flat head screw driver to pry the stubburn ones off and the rest I either screwed them out carely or just ended up pulling them out with brute force. I'm going to go with the cabring underpanel since its cheaper and I plan on getting a bigger intercooler so I going to need to take off the stock underpanel anyway to make it fit.
