Question Is this common?

Say I'm in 3rd gear and get on it up to 5000rpm and let it stay in gear and let it rev down, right at 3500rpm the car feels like it downshifted slightly, like it makes a slight grab, what is this?

Maybe a clutch issue.

clutch feels fine i can fly through the gears car feels stronger then ever. I'm not worried sometimes it will happen other times it wont, to prevent it i'll just up shift.

can't say it ever happended on mine. I wouln't say it's a drivetrain issue. Sounds like some sort of turbo system/ecu thing.

a slight grab? you mean... it starts to decelerate quicker all of the sudden? cuz that happens in my evo

Isn't this about the time your boost falls off (i.e. turbo spooling down)?

Being hyper observant and paranoid myself, I think I know exactly what you're talking about. I've always attributed this to have something to do with the delayed throttle closing that has been implemented for emissions. The worst part about the delayed throttle closing is the RPM 'float' when letting off the gas, but I've also noticed that the 'float' seems to suddenly go away around 3500 as you mention. Pure speculation, but maybe it has something to do with that ...

i noticed the MR's have that "float" in between shifts but my RS doesnt, my rpms fall instantly as i let off the gas to shift, i dunno how the regular evo VIII and IX's are though
