How bad is this?
How bad is it your car to just turn it on and drive in the morning, or come to a stop and just shut it off. Without letting it warm up or letting it sit for a few minutes before you turn it off. I am going to have the current owner drive the car FIRST to check out his driving habits, if he does not do those things is that a red flag to walk away?
Personally i always let all my cars warm up before i drive them whether they are turbo or not. I feel that it is a good idea to let everything get warm and get the oil flowing before you start to drive the car although there are some people who believe it is better to just start driving the car from the start because you get more oil pressure when driving with higher rpm's. When i say higher i do not mean around redline or anything like that. If you have to drive it as soon as you start it up stay out of boost and keep the rpm's low until the car gets up to temp.
As far as shutting the car off when your done driving. If the car wasn't driven hard before you shut it off you don't have anything to worry about. If it was driven hard and then shut down immediately then i would be skeptical as to how many times or how often he does that.
Good luck with you purchase. Check out more than how he drives. Look at all the mechanical aspects of it also.

Spooled Ya, such behavior will get you put on timeout in a hurry, so please refrain.
I start up and drive my car after 20-30s everytime, and I only wait 20-30s after I park to shut it off. You should re-word your question, because it doesn't matter if you drive before warming up the car...you are SUPPOSED to drive it to warm it up just off boost and at low rpm. And there's no reason to leave it running after you park unless you need to cool the oil in the turbo, which is only necessary if you've been boosting hard.

It all depends. On my VW jetta, the manual says no warm up required. You can just start and go. In the evo owners manual, it says to wait until the temp needle starts moving then your good to go. That usually takes 1-2 mins.

i agree with what was said above about letting the car warm up... i usually let it warm up unitl the rpm's drop to 1000-1100. if im running late for something and don't have time to wait the four minutes or so it takes to warm up then i won't boost at all. although personally i like to let the car warm up.
cooling down i hardly ever do it, unless my fan is running when im about to shut the car down. or if i had just boosted prior to shutting down.

Come on guys, keep the comments relative to the question.
I used to always warm up my car before driving, and it's only because back then I lived in an apartment about 2 mins away from work. A friend of mine was in the same situation as me and he used to just drive after starting up the car, he bought an '01 Sunfire brand new and after 3 years of doing that the exhaust rusted through, apparently it wasn't heated up to a good temperature because of his short commute. But I don't do that anymore now since I bought a house and my commute went to 2 minutes to 15.
I always try to let the car sit in idle for a minute or two before I turn the engine off to let the oil in the turbo cool down a bit, I've heard horror stories about oil in turbos forming residues and eventually mess up the turbo from others. It's not really a big deal, usually I just sit in the parking lot in the morning and listen to the radio for a minute before I head to my building, or let it sit in the garage while I go check the mail when I get home at night. I don't know if that really helps, but it doesn't hurt to do so.

I always let my Evo warm up, usually a couple of minutes. Then I watch my oil pressure gauge when I drive it for the first 10 minutes, never letting the oil pressure get past 100 psi. I don't do much of a cool down, unless I've been flogging the turbo. No more than 10 seconds on a normal cooldown. About a minute if I've been pushing things.

I let the engine idle in my car for about 30 seconds. Then i start driving it, but I dont hit boost at all for 10-15 minutes, depending on the weather. I check my oil pressure as well and let it go down slowly.
To cool it down, I actually had an EGT and monitored how fast it cooled down.
Even I was cruising around normally and I arrived home, the EGT would be around 450C-550C. If I put the turbotimer to 1 minute, the EGT would go down to 300C or so. if I waited 2 minutes, it would go down to 200C. If I waited 3 minutes, it would just barelyyy see 170C. So, I just set it to 1:30 and call it a day. If I was beating it, then I put another minute.
Also, I noticed, when crusing if you let the car be in a high gear and dont accelerate at all, the engine cools down reallly fast. 650C to 300C in about 10-15 seconds!
So what I do is I go down my street at a decent speed and I put it in 2nd gear, let off the throttle and pretty much come to a stop on my driveway since it isnt inclined at all.
But thats just me. I think 45 seconds + is decent for a time, but no more than 2 minutes.

I'm sorry but this is one of the dumbest things I have ever read on here. You are going to "test" someone before you buy a car from them to see if they let the car warm up? My god man, enough with the stupid questions and silly tests - just buy a freaking evo or settle for a Civic. Judging by your paranoia, I would opt for the Civic.
