What kind of parts do you mod with?

Just like the thread says, do you mod with:

The best parts, more expensive, brand new
Cheaper parts that will get you to your goal, brand new
The best parts, used
Cheaper parts that will get you to your goal, used

I have a friend with a DSM, he buys the cheaper parts and ones that he can get used. He wonders why his car is always running weird...

When modding I always buy the best parts brand new. Reliability comes before everything else to me, what is your stance and opinion?

I agree to an extent.....

I base it on reviews from other users when it comes to cheaper parts.

Used parts i dont like used engine parts or drive train. Rims and such ok.

I don't understand people that buy used clutches. my opinion

I get the best parts for the least amount possible, both new and used, but I limit my used parts to things that I don't think are risky (no used cams, clutches, or fuel pumps, etc.).

I don't agree that the cheaper parts aren't also some of the best or that the more expensive parts are automatically the best. Quite the opposite usually when discussing HKS, Greddy, and such...

DSM is different than most other makes of cars...for example with honda you go with spoon or mugen and they are the most expensive and the best. however with dsm its totally different, bushur racing is one of the best and one of the cheapest(just one example)

basically what im saying is you have to go with product reviews and not consider money. if you want the best get what has had the best reviews whether its $15 or $250. my .02

Not all the best parts are expensive. I'll buy used on less critical items.

I sold my brake pads and rotors when they were brand new and threw on some used stockers. I made some good money off that deal. Been running them used brakes for like 40K miles now and the car still stops

I also got a killer deal an a used seatbelt from an EVO that was totalled. It only has a small rip in it - shouldn't cause a problem cause it is in the passenger side and those things are way over-engineered anyway.

Then I got the awesome idea to save rotating weight so I got some titanium lug nuts. Only thing is I couldn't afford the whole set so I am just running 3 on each wheel. Should be strong enough to hold - after all, it is TITANIUM right?

Anyone wanna go for a ride?
