I think it all depends on how much your paying to use the money. Not for nothing I rather keep the extra 5-10K in my account in case there is an emergency rather then give it to someone for mods. I don't mind paying for that security

If you have to finance MODS you simply cant *******......... it!
If you have a low interest CC then use it.
I get tired of seing nice cars like Evo's, WRX's, STI's etc at work that are full of mods and the IDIOTS could not pay his/their payment!

You can probably do something a bit more creative and pay a helluva lot less - like get a CD (Certificate of deposit) and finance against the CD as collateral. Since you have something as collateral you should be able to get better then a revolving (ie credit card) rate.
