people with stewart warner oil pressure gauge

I just got mine installed today

the needle movement is not smooth. Best way to describe it is that the movement is notchy, kind of like the seconds hand on a watch. It responds well, it just has a jerky movement.

Any clues? is this normal?

Yes, it is normal. I cant remember the term, but it does that so you can read it. It's OK. I watch mine everyday all the time.

mine does this too. i've tried everything. i even ran a 10 gauge ground to the cylinder head to eliminate interferance. mine still twitches. it reads kind of low too. sometimes it reads like 0-5 psi when idling. i think that is due to crappy pressure senders and the mounting location near the oil filter on the evo. my oil pressure it jumpy too though. boost and egt are fine though.

I just got VDO gauges installed and my oil pres. gauge has smooth movement. That being said, it must not be the location of the sending unit (by the oil filter).

If you have your sender mounted in one of the galleys in the block you need to get that looked at. That is extremely low and could be a sign of a serious engine problem.

I have the electrical Stewart Warner oil pressure gauge. Thats normal operation for it. I saw a Defi gauge and was surprised at how smooth it was compared to mine. As long as it works though.

YES EXACTLY, I can't stress this enough, our cars, when driven hard, like most Evo owners do, have a lot of oil blow by, which means you're going to be going through about a quart or half a quart every 5000 miles. . .I check in the MORNING (ie oil has sat overnight, so it can all drip to the bottom of the pan) every week as well. . .

i do agree with checking it often and i also agree with it losing a half quart every 5k miles or so, but i don't find a problem with a lot of blow by. my catch can is usually dry. i guess its a combo of me not driving the car hard and probably (hopefully) a good piston ring seal.

just installed my stewart warner oil pressure gauge and it has the "notchy" movement. all the readings from it seem good other than the notchy movement from the needle. why doesnt the gauge have a smooth reading??
