Launch Control for the novice..

Guys, before you fry me and make another toast duck out of me: i really searched.. i spent 30 mins searching.. all i found out on launch control is ppl using it, having it, mistreating it but nothing on what a launch control is..

My simple question is: 'what is launch control?'

Thanks

They are probably talking about that built in 5k rev limit on all 05+ Evo's in which you can't go any higher than 5000rpms when at a complete stop to launch the car, or at least, that is my understanding.

Well on the newer evos it wasnt meant as a launch control or stutter control ;well at least not to my understanding.

on the newer ones it is using a circuit where you can disable it via pulling a fuse. On the older evos it was not included and you can get a rev limiter setup via a flash to give you the same effect.

Launch control allows you to set a secondary rev limiter when the car is NOT moving. Here are some videos:

This is the standard launch control. Builds about 7-8lbs of boost:

This is launch control with ignition retard. Builds tons of boost:

so when you rev and keep the rev's up to launchletting the launch contorl do it's job, do you still need to feather it or can you just drop the clutch? if dropping the clutch, is this harsher on the clutch than reving to 6k and dropping it without launch control?

Launch control is exactly what it sounds like: control for your launch.

It sets the stationary rev limit at a lower rpm than the regular rev limit so that you can build boost off the line and have a consistent launch point.

Here is my Dynoflash 2-step at 6k from outside the car:

6k 2-step launch

And here it is at the track from inside the car (notice I only let the launch control pop twice - I don't like sitting there with it bouncing off the rev limiter very long):

No, you can't ever just drop the clutch regardless of launch control or not. That will just kill your transfer case. You still have to slip it slightly to get the drivetrain slack out and not completely bog.

Yes, I had a little. No, I'm not worried, because it was just briefly. If it was more, I would let off.

Just checking. WHat creates wheel hop?? is it not sticky tires....or too much air pressure in the tire?

I got that once on the street and I let up immediately.
