On the best motoring video it say evo 7 has .37 and evo 8 has .36 for the cd. Is that correct? I dont' understand .36 should have lots of wind noise and slowing of the car once off throttle at over 100mph. I recall .33 for STi. Anybody knows the cd for the evo 7?

cd is drag coeffcient for those who might not be familar with that term.

They had a box and they put the cd for the front and the wing. Perhaps the the .36 is the lancer cedia and i have to subtract the front and rear improvement to get the real cd? Anyone here read that japanese chart?

Don't feel too bad - my dear departed 280Z was less aerodynamic than the shipping box it came in.

All those vents, wings, and wide tyres add up. .36 isn't bad, in a relative sense to the shape of the car and the amount of vents and wings that are there. For a really good Cd, you need to look like a bar of soap.

Of course, as much as Cd counts, so does frontal area and other factors. You could have a lousy Cd, like an NSX does, but have such a small frontal area, like the NSX does, that it actually does far better at speed than cars with larger frontal area but great Cd.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

I can't imagine the STi having a better CD than the Evo just because of the big hood scoop. The drag on that alone must be horrible.

The Japanese says :

EVO VIII EVO VII

So I reckon its comparing the differences between the Evolution 8 and 7.

If there's more print I could tell you more.

CLF=Coefficient of Lift front
CLR=Coefficient of Lift Rear

As for the high Cd remember these cars are made for rallying. So speeds above 120 mph don't matter too much. But efficiency at low speeds, cooling and not dropping downforce at high slip angles mater more. This car is not built for Le Mans but the Rally of Monaco.

Just for comparison, I read in Motor Trend that the latest Corvette (C5) with the large rear glass, the hatchback with t-top had a cd of .33 This was taken from the magazine that had the red Lingenfelter Twin Turbo C5 hitting top speed.

S2000 registered a .37-.39 with top up.

I wonder what the new Lambo Murc. is running?
