quick intake help please

i had a cone filter laying around in my garage that i got for free from a friends shop and figured id put it on the stock snorkel just to see what all the hype was about (i love my drop in)....

anyways i threw it on and unplugged the mass airflow sensor and started it up and it died. i started her up angain and she sputtered a little and then idled fine so i backed it out of the garage and took it for a short spin around the block (which sounded crappy) and then the check engine light came on.

i re installed the stock box and put everything back how it was and now the check engine light is still on .. i unplugged the battery now and am letting the car rest in the garage. does anyone know why my check engine light is still on after going back to the stock box? it drives fine but that check engine light really bothers me.

help please and thanks in advance

You took your car for a spin after you unplugged the MAS?

I think the culprit is the unplugged MAF sensor. Even with a cone filter, you need to have that sensor plugged in. Some cone filters come with an adapter to make this possible. I don't know much though, because i bought mine with a cone filter and stock intake piping on it. I think unplugging the battery should reset the light and as long as you leave the MAF plugged in, you should be fine.

Right, we are saying unplugging it and driving is what caused the CEL. Reset CEL and enjoy...

You said you unplugged it then started the car and drove it. That would cause a CEL immediately even after plugging it in. The code should clear after resetting the battery/ECU, then you should be fine, since it's all put back together.
