All RS-R ExMag (muffler not GTII) owners

For all those that have the RS-R ExMag catback system, again muffler type not GTII, could all of you post you're max power & tq you've gotten? please include your mods too.

I'm just curious of what this exhaust system is capable of producing or allowing HP/TQ. I know it's a muffler style and ment to be a quite system but looking down the tip I notice that the diameter of the pipe inside the muffler is or seem very small. Yes the all the pipes are 8omm but inside the muffler is or seem to be a different story, doesn't even look to be 70mm...maybe 60mm. I was expecting a little smaller diameter but not that small, it look smaller than the one in the stock muffler.

So please post your HP, TQ & mods.

Thanks

On the Gruppe-S Mustang dyno I put down 255whp/265wtq with a Tanabe 70mm DP, 3" HFC and 3" RSR ExMag. The car was flashed and dynotuned with EcuTek. My car is an '05. Those peak numbers may seem low but it's all relative. Their dyno is a ball-buster. Very few Evos, even with cams, crack 300whp. There is nothing wrong with the ExMag as far as I've heard. Those who have it love it for its stock-like appearance and better flow.

The Exmag does tapper down alittle bit in the muffler and you may lose 1 to 3 hp, but the exhaust if fairly quiet and you can live with it every day. AMS had the car (IX with bolt ons and a flash) dynoed at 315hp and 300tq. Martin at AMS said it was one of the quietest exhausts he has ever heard on an EVO. I think the more modified your EVO is (big turbo) the more exhaust choice will matter. It just depends what you are planing to do to your EVO and how far you will go with it.

=)

thanks to both of your replies. Yeah I want this system for keep the flashy lights off my rear & draw less attention as possible, but give a upgrade performance over stock. I have the Espelir on my Evo now, love it but like to lower the Db a bit, so I got the ExMag. I was just surprise looking down into the muffler that's all I had a Magna Flow on my old car and the inner pipe wasn't that small for a 3" system. I was going to sell my Espelir, but I guess I'm going to hold on to it until I get the AMS tune, then see what kind of HP/Tq I get. By all means I'm not looking to try to get 400+ HP, maybe a respectable 335 to 350...maybe up to 375.

Actually to tell you the truth, the Exmag isn't a silent exhaust like stock. It actually is throaty and deep sounding. And at 80mph, there is some resonance throughout the cabin. Is it quieter than most, yes. But it does have a very stock look to it. Even some Mits techs have a hard time telling that it is a aftermarket exhaust. I think someone posted painting their whole catback flat black (even the tip) so that also could be a option.

Well in the Turbo Magazine exhaust shootout it made the smallest gains over stock vs. all others tested.

But it was also the quietest of the bunch. I've been extremely happy with this setup. And like somebody mentioned earlier, it looks like stock to the untrained eye. In fact at my 10k, 15k, and 20k mile scheduled service the tech doing the work asked me afterwards if I had done any mods. Keep in mind the car is on a lift for visual inspection and tire rotation.

Actually the Turbo XS is quieter at idle and 3000rpm while the Injen was the same at idle and 1dB less at 3000rpm. Read the article again.

installed

ok, I installed the ExMag Saturday and had driven on it all day Sunday...first off, it is quite....I can't remember how stock sounded but comared to my Espelir I took off it's quite. At idle is a few Db lower and highway cruise at 80 is noticably quiter, though that Turbo article had the Espelir and Exmag same Db at idle and like 1 Dd difference at 3000. Power...my seat/butt dyno felt same maybe a bit smoother on boost & acceleration.
Oh one note on what I mentioned about the muffler's inner pipe diameter, when I pulled off my Espelir and look down the mid-pipe where/at the resinator is...honestly it's close if not the same as Exmag inner pipe so I figure it wouldn't be a big different in power difference.
So again I'm happy with the change and the lowered DB, now the Yoko and road nose is a louder than the exhaust (at cruise).
Anyone want a use Espelir cat-back?

Well the Exmag passes the Buschur beer-can test. I measured and it's bigger than 3 inches diameter inside the muffler. The problem is where it necks down at the catalytic converter if you have a larger one than stock or a test pipe.

And for a real stock look cut off that horrid huge tip, inside it is a nice tip that is not shiny and is actually smaller than the tip on the stock exhaust. Looks like an exhuast pipe should.

Really it is 3" inside the muffler?!? It looks like a beer can wont fit in there. How did you get the can to go that deep inside with all the bends. I would be afraid of doing that to mine and getting a can stuck inside.

You must ahve the GT2 version. The one that is not all black.

The Exmag is black piping and supposedley much quieter. I find mine loud enough though on the freeway.
