I'll try to get in here before you get flamed. First, searching is always a must before posting. Second, you don't need a turbo timer. We have a water cooled turbo...all it takes is a minute of time to idle out before you shut off your engine...not even a minute actually. Just give it 30 seconds, eh?

I just got me an APEXi turbo timer. Used to have the GREDDY and really liked it, but it took up too much space. The APEXi is tiny and can be mounted practically anywhere..

although you really dont need a turbo timer, but the car MUST cool down from driving. after you shut the car off, there will no longer be a flow of water to cool the turbo, and that the oil after a hard run will stay in the turbo and sludge up when the oil cools down. its the easiest to install a turbo timer.
i like the HKS type 1 since it has the auto timer feature, so it automatically calculates the cooling time depending on how hard you run the car. it also has
voltage display
RPM display with RED warning light and beep
Speed display with the same warning
60ft, 0-60mph, 1/8mile, 1/4mile

i like it and would recommend it.

i just take it very easy for the last 30 seconds to a minute before i shut the car off. If your going to someones house, just cruise to their driveway, if going to the mall, keep it easy in the parking lot. At the dragstrip the exit lanes...

keep it calm for that "cool down" period, and theres no need to let it keep running. Not to mention that you give a theif that extra advantage of your car not being in gear

the easiest way of stealing an evo is flatbedding it. Granted a towtruck will pickup anything, imagine how easy it is to lift in onto a truck with only the parking brake up. its not that strong of a parking brake. at least if the car is in gear, it will give more effort to roll it. Like i said, it isnt gonna stop anyone, but its just that one little incentive that may make it even easier to get out of there. not to mention if, they are gonna steal it on a 2 wheel tow, not in gear would help them out albeit terrible for the car.

It cant be in gear with a TT since it would ... crash into what ever was in front of it..
