50k update (long)
nice job of keeping her in one piece, its funny i just hit 50,000 miles last week and my car still pulls like a rocket ship, and like u said as long as u treat your evo right the evo will be good to u. mine has.
good post.... i just bought my evo with 40k on it and The previous owner seemed to take DAMN good care of it. Its all stock but an intake and 2 gauges, i myself will not be able to let my evo stay stock, even though ive debated it but it just is itching at me. Being a DSM owner also I cannot stay away from the power but im going to make this car MUCH simpler then my gsx is and go for a more all around car insted of a straight line monster like my gsx lol i want it to be something i can take to vacation and back without having to worry about whats going to snap next lol
that was a good read. i will be keeping the car stock for awhile when i get it to keep the warranty intact, so it's good to read something positive as your writeup. very nice job maintaining your car.
Thanks for the good response guys... The cracks don't really spread that much for some reason. I got the big one to move by tapping on the glass (experiment) next to it and it moved a couple inches. But for the most part they aren't spreading on their own, which I do find weird.
96 hit it on the head as to why I've kept it stock. I just think it works so well, and I can't afford any downtime trying to fix mods. With my previous car I was always like, "Man, is that right? Did it do that before I put that on?" I spent lots of wasted time and money swapping parts out and stuff. I'm getting older now (only 27 still), getting married in July, and it's enough just to get the future wife to let me keep it much less spend more money on it modding.

This community definitely needs more posts like this.
If all goes well, I will be joining the 'work force Evo' clique late this year. I may mod it in time, but even stock, the Evo is just an amazing car.
Sounds like you've had a LOT of good times in this car. Glad she's treated you well.

Good right-up oak! Your experience is on-par with mine, though I have less miles/longer ownership. As an ex-Coloradian I sympathize with your road rash. Windshield replacement should be on the scheduled maintenance list for any car in CO. I do miss the chance to drive in snow with the Evo (I am in AL now) however!
I do agree with one of the previous posters that, if you get a chance, a track day (road course) is great fun and isn't that hard on your car. For the experience, you get to push your car much harder than you could/should on public road and it makes you really appreciate the Evo's capabilites out-of-box.

Most of the problems you describe for your car is very common. I've hit 50k on my car a few weeks ago...and the only problems I've had on my evo are bad 5th gear synchro, which was replaced under warranty, and the paint going to **** since this is my daily driver. I've had my car since sept 03 and wouldn't trade or sell it for anything. I however have launched it many times and have a few mods on it.
I'm still on my stock clutch, but have changed out my pads and rotors. Just as long as you do the regular maintenance, the evo will last a long time with no major problems.
Good post btw.

HA! our cars are twins! I just rolled over 50k in mine 2 weeks ago and I put 10 less miles a day for work than you in rural Ohio.
1. The only problem I don't have that you've covered is the clutch problem.
2. I get FR suspension clunk, but it went away after 3 months.
I have changed my pads and rotors and I've added a boost guage.
My windshield just cracked yesterday, took a unlucky hit on the road two days ago. Other than that, I love every moment of this car.
oh yeah, my Brembo's are on the verge of peeling...the outter skins is bubbling, I think I should have waxed it more in the past.
Finally, it interesting to see that I also share the same notchy feeling in 1-2 and 2-3. My 1-2 clunks sometimes, but if i guide it correctly, it doesn't. My 2-3 only is notchy upon it's first shift on a cold morning. My 2-3 has only gotten notchy with BG Syncroshift. I will be changing to PZ Syncromesh next time. BTW, I never had the 5th gear syncro grind problem with my car.

Nice mdosu! The clutch thing isn't so much a "problem", just wanted to post that it's normal for it to get kinda mushy in stop/go heavy traffic. I thought it was going out around 40k, so I've had the replacement sitting in the closet for 10k miles now
Hopefully it'll sit for a good time longer.

^^Oak, two questions:
1. are you planning on replacing your clutch with a stock clutch? If so, how much did you pay for it, and where did you buy it?
2. How do you get such a high gas milage without turning down boost? I know everyone says don't boost, but literally, it almost impossible not to boost.
Also, say you're cruising at 60mph, even though you're not in positive boost, my boost gauge tells me I'm still spooling my turbo slightly..so therefore, my engine computer is inputting more fuel. As a result I can't better than 24mpg.
Did you take off your wing? I heard that makes a big difference. Other than that? How do you accelerate? where do you shift? I'm really trying to get more than 24mpgs....

2. Yep, they're right, don't boost. I have a boost gauge as well (Defi BF) and cruising at 60 on flat land I'm right about at 10inHG. I play a little game trying to keep that needle below the 0 mark. Going uphill maintaining 60 in 5th gear, I push 5-6 psi or so. Other than that, slow acceleration will help out BIG time. I'm talkin' like Geo acceleration. Yeah, it will **** people off behind you, I get a lot of tailgaters since everyone else on the road thinks I should be hauling ***. I've found it's not so much where you shift, but how fast you get there. I shift between 2500 and 3k (probably the norm for good mpg) and I never hit more than 5psi accelerating. On slight uphills, I may ride it to 3.5k or 4k, but again, not accelerating any faster to get there, just making it easier on the engine, as that's the overall goal.
No, I haven't taken the wing off, I'm not a fan of how the Evo looks without it. Just seems unbalanced and like it's been castrated.
