Did my first real mod to the EVO today

Well, the car has over 10kmi on it, so it's time to start the mods!

Since I like fit & finish. Keeping the factory warrenty is nice, I went with Works stuff. Yes, it's a little on the spendy side, but I like!

Here is what I got....
1. Turbo back exhasut
2. drop in panel filter
3. Rallyart grounding kit
4. This Friday Works is going to flash the ECU.

The exhasut has to be the easyest thing to install! It was more work to install the grounding kit! Everything fit perfectly. The exhaust dropped with no issues, and the install was fine, I did it with just some jack stands & hand tools.

Really, the thing is a perfect fit! The sound is awesome! There is 0 drone, it's deeper and really not loud unless you are at WOT. On the FW it's almost stock sounding. Idel just sounds sweet!

I changed the air filter, and installed the wires, went for a drive. The car seamed to idle smoother. It also seamed to have a little more low @ low RPM's. It just felt smoother & more stable.

Then I installed the exhaust and went for a drive

WOW, it comes on boost so much faster! The first time it scared me. I'm so happy with the parts and the power!!! I can't wait till Friday when Works does the ECU!

The only other things on the car is a chassis brace, SS brake lines, and Redline fluids.

So where to go now? I'm thinking...
1. BOV
2. Coil over suspension
3. new rims
4. some MR or JDM parts.

sweet thanks for the writeup, especially about the exhaust. Im gunna eventually get an exhaust so its always nice to hear how they sound and perform. I would like to find the best performing and quietest exhaust out there. Sounds like this could be one of them?

p.s. Dont go with a BOV as your next mod. Maybe an metal diverter valve but a VTA bov is really not going to help at all. I'd say onto the coil overs!

- Do a BOV (DV really) to hold your increased boost after the flash. Get a JDM MR DV or Forge RS DV, but don't get the GFB.
- Don't do coilovers until you've learned to outdrive the stock suspension in racing venues
- Rims - that's up to you....hopefully, you are getting an extra set of rims for racing so that you can have race tires
- Not sure what you mean by MR or JDM parts...

Be sure to add a Walbro fuel pump BEFORE the flash...do it immediately.

Congrats on the new mods! That exhaust mod is killer, isn' it? I remember the difference I noted with just the cat-back. I then pieced the rest of it together, so I was able to note the changes as I progressed. That had to be like night and day after putting on the entire system.

In the event that you are not already aware, any mod threatens your warranty.

I would recommend a 255 LPH fuel pump next. I would be surprised if Works doesn't tell you that. Anyways, congrats! It's a whole new animal.

Thanks guys! I'm really happy with it.
War,
Yes, I'm going to add a DIVERTER Vavle, but it's easier to just say BOV, you know what I mean. My thoughts were Forge, or Works. I have Forge on my S4. The fuel pump is already in there, I did it when I changed all the fluids. But it's not really a mod as much as a safty net.
On the MR or JDM stuff, just the trunk stiffner, vortex generator, headlights & tails. The black will really look sweet on a yellow EVO.
Dream,
The exhaust is not ricy at all! If you want performance & a good sweet low note get the Works stuff!

I've been racing cars (real racing have racing license) for years now. I'v yet to take the EVO out to a open track day. But my goal is to have my GF go out and lean to drive better then she does now. I've already pushed the stock stuff quite a bit just having fun. It is one of the BEST stock setups I have ever driven, the car has so much repsonce & feedback.

Silver, WORKS parts are COVERED under the factory warranty! That was one of my reasons for paying more $$ on them. Yes, it is a whole new animal.

Wait, are you saying you think that Mitsu will honor your warranty because you got Works parts? I sure hope not. The only warranty coverage you get is on the parts themselves from WORKS directly...Mitsu doesn't give a flying pig poop where your got your mods - they will still deny pretty much any warranty coverage you try to get.

Mountain Mitsubishi in Tacoma, WA has worked out a partnership with Works where the factory warranty is maintained for all Works parts (excluding, of course, Works "R" designated parts).

Hey, you live in Washington right? You are going to San Francisco to get a ECU-Flash?

I noticed that you have an Evo VIII, does WORKS work on the Evo IX? Hard to find stuff for the Evo IX yet.....

It's not hard to find stuff for the IX. There's stuff all over the place...not much changed in terms of mods other than the intake cam.

urban_dk, that's one dealership, but no other dealership is obligated. Plus, this guy said he got a TBE and NO dealership can look beyond modification/tampering/replacement of the stock cat, so I don't know if that agreement applies to him. The other obvious problem is that the district or regional rep usually makes the call on big money items, in which case it wouldn't matter what deal the dealership made. Overall, though, that's good to hear - it's similar to the BR Evos.

Well, the problem is finding a place (like AMS) to work on my Evo, because I don't have the tools, or know how to work on my Evo, trust me, I wish I knew how, but I don't know anyone who will take the time to teach me.

Please...... help........

I mean, just tell me where to get a nice Turboback exhaust, and I'll be happy, but I can't even find one of those. I know how to do simple stuff like the exhaust.

I like that package for the IX you worked out with Buschur, now, how do I get there to get it installed?!?

I'm frustrated.

Man, you can do this stuff by following basic instructions with some simple tools, or you can just go to any speed shop around town and have it all installed. THere are probably a bunch of Evo owners in your vicinity, too, who can either do it for you or show you how. Installing the stuff is the easy part when dealing with basic mods like this.

Is the works TBE lighter than the stock components? It looks heavy...

Thanks.
