If I were spending as much money as you were - I might consider flying out to AMS and seeing if they can't have a customer come by with a car similar to your setup just to see if the streetability is there. AMS isn't too far from O'hare airport and a round-trip can't cost too terribly much to make sure you will be satisified.

Hell, I will even pick you up just to get a ride - because I am thinking the same setup for my EVO - that is once I find a nice project car.

i have a question! have you ever driven in a big hp evo before? say 500-600whp? have you ever gone 10's in the quater? do you know what that feel's like? making the jump from 13's to 10's is insanity! trapping 105-110 to 130-135.....big diffrence! my advice to you is to take a good look at what your truly trying to accomplish with your evo! i'm not saying this be a jerk or act like a know it all but more for your own safty! i think you should go with a 35r or a 37r and learn how to drive it properly first.. if you think your gonna just strap on a 35r on and go 10's your mistaken! there is a little bit of a learning curve involed! to even consider a 42r is out of the question imo. 42r's are made for race and not very streetable even with a stroker to help spool time. not to mention with the hp you'll make with that 42r you'll need a cage, fire suit, helmet and harness's before anyone will even let you make a pass.... experiment bud, get your 37r, stroke it make your 680-700whp and learn!! smoke everything in your hood in the process belive me you'll not be disappointed... personally i've had a 35r for the past year and a half, been making over 550whp and had a blast in the process, it took a little while to learn to drive it at the track at it's full potential..if i ever did
i am currently building a 40r 2.3 setup at slickmotorsports, not the out of the box 40r with the 83ar hot side that takes a long time to spool like the 42r! but the faster spooling 63ar hot side.. i cannot wait to get it finished! this setup is capable of 800whp and with some supporting mod's we have planned might even make mid 800's... which is more than enough to go 9's.... so this is also and opition for you in the future if you wanna get more hp.
remember, do your research! make the right choice.. and have fun!

We drove our car to AMS from NY. ( Look at post " Classy shop, classy people" )and I did get a ride in a car that was there for some work on it. It wasn't a complete AMS built car but it was the only car to catch a ride in and Arnie took us for a ride. When Arnie hit it and it spooled up it put us back in the seats and as soon as he slowed down the first words to us was but your car will be faster than this when it's done. I just looked in the back seat at my son and I know we both had the same thought. Wow!!

That car was faster than my old 62 360 fuelie Corvette: best time 11:99 @ 118mph.

yeah i know, out of the box 40r's with a large ar hot side spool slow!!!
that's why we built our own 40r with a smaller hot side for much faster spool..

good luck on the car guys. Im sure whatever setup you guys pic will be a good choice. Is this car a daily driven car...do you guys plan on driving it alot on the street? I guess that is something you should consider. It does seem as though you guys are on the right path though.

again cheers!

Yes. Plan on driving it almost everyday as a daily driver; however I wont put useless milage on the motor if I dont have to. Race engines such as the 2.3 need rebuilding after about 20k.

I will try to get AMS to post pictures for us once the car is complete. I also will get some videos of it ASAP for you guys.

thanks for some of the input so far...
