How many times have you smelled ...
yall dont get it, its not the car. its the technique - you get the best performance off the line and the best overall 1/4 time with slight tire slippage. to get tire slippage in an all wheel drive you need 1- more than enough power to spin the tires (or a loose enough surface) 2 - slip the clutch (this is the stock Evo's dilemma)
now if every time you launched your evo and you got the tires to spin instead of the clutching taking the grunt of the bog, then you would be all good.
now if we had power like this - Norris designs Evo - you could launch all day cuz u wouldnt burn the clutch, you would burn the tires...

So, which cars were designed to be 'launched' at a drag strip? Civics? Accords? Maximas? If so, then someone needs to tell the hundreds of ricers that turn up at HRP on a Friday night that they need to purchase a different car. No car was designed to be 'launched' at a drag strip. I had to replace the clutch in my Mustang twice due to 4K dumps after a nice smokey burnout, and I've seen Cobras drop half shafts on the starting line. So, oh wise one, which car is it that was designed for the drag strip?

Drag racing is fun if you are into that sort of thing, but dont complain when its hard to get a good launch out of a sloppy clutch and no torque out of the hole.
The Evo is a great car to AutoX and road race and if one wants to invest in Suspension and tires, then also rally and rally-x.
dmora, I think you are missing his point. The only cars that were truly made for this type of use would be purpose built drag cars. No production road car was ever built to launch all day long without crying at the end of the day.
