For those that traded in their 05 Evos to the IXs, is it worth it? Is there anything that you miss from your 05? What are some issues that you have found on your IX that were not in your 05?

For current 05 Evo owners, what are your reasons for not upgrading to an IX? If you had the chance and $$ would you?

I bought my 03 VIII on November and payed 21,900 for it. Just this month, I went back to that same mitsu dealer this month and they gave me 23000K for the 03 and I bought a GG IX MR for 34500K. Got a great deal on both ends. It is sooo much faster than my 03 and quieter as well. They fixed a lot of the VIII issues as far as crasftmanship. I would go for it.

 

I would trade mine if i could, its not worth it to me, loose too much money...Ill just upgrade to the IX turbo

 

If I had an 05, I honestly wouldn't trade up to an 06 even if I had the money to do it. However, if I had an 03/04, I would do it in a heartbeat.

 

I guess you missed the part where he was asking 05 Evo owners.

There's nothing to miss if switching to an IX. Small differences here and there but nothing that you'd miss.

I thought hard about getting an IX but it would be a minimum 5k loss after you figure in extra taxes, and so forth. Not worth it for essentially the same car.

 

I traded up from an 03 to a 05... I considered it worth it because of a new, longer warranty and the fact I got 0% financing on the 05. I think I walked out with a great deal and an even greater car... I would love an 06, but I dont think that tradeup would be worth it (money wise).

 

No. I wouldn't do it.

 

I would, IF:

Your going to mod the car. Modding the IX is cheaper than the VIII if your shooting for the 340-350 awhp level....all the IX needs is a flash and a TBE. The money saved could be a small bit of justification to get the IX.

If your staying stock, forget it then, not worth it.

 

I think if you are into just light bolt ons then yes, the IX is the superior car. But if one day you are going stand alone, big Garrett and shooting for 600whp+ it is not worth it. MIVEC might be a hurdle rather then a stepping stone, or at least is right now. The fastest Evos are still the simplest Evos, i.e. '03s. The '05 is closer to that simplicty.

 

All things being equal, the IX is the better car. But IMO, not worth the massive hit you are going to take on your VIII unless you just won the lottery.

*classic* misconception. The evo9 is only "easier to mod" if you plan to never replace the turbo. Once the turbo's are swapped out, '05 evo's and '06 Evos dyno VERY close to eachother.

So should people take a $5,000 hit to trade in their '05 for an '06? Hell no!! Put that $5,000 into your Evo8 and yes, it will walk on a 9.

 

Like others said bolt ons the IX any further than that a 03-05 are easier.

 

I always hear that MIVEC isnt good for big HP #'s! I just cant understand how variable valve timing isnt good @ that Hp level?

Read up on some Mivec threads and ive found that the MIVEC actually promotes earlier spool on high HP IX's....

 

I traded my 05 in for an 06. I found a good deal and I definitely like the mivec and the interior a bit better. I will either stay stock powerwise or TBE and flash and just throw on some MR bilsteins and call it a day.
