I am stuck on which direction to take with my Evo…

First off I will start with my current setup:

TBE
Drop-in
MBC
Tune

Currently I am at 340 WHP and 350 WTQ on the Mynes Performance Mustang Dyno
with Sunoco 104 Race Gas at 23 PSI

I have seen people on the board run 11.60 with similar setups…

I have just a few questions:

At what point is the stock turbo maxed out? I ran a 12.2 @ 110 spiking 25psi, I mean how much more power is left in the stock turbo?

How much Power can the stock internals take? HP & TQ?

Lastly I have the Apex RX6 turbo kit sitting in my room, my original plan was to do a 2.4 bottom end swap and then slap the turbo on, but now I am wondering …If my stock turbo is maxed out, should I slap the turbo kit on and see what it can do?” Then I thought what kind of power could I push with the 2.0 and stock internals? The kit is capable of 38 PSI without a problem.

I have a goal…to run 11.49 constantly …11.0 is my ultimate goal, but safe. I think 11.49 might be capable on stock turbo… but if I slap on the Apex where would I stand? 11.0 with ease? Also what kind of power do I need to run these times?

What advice could you guys give me? Thanks in Advance.

well i will tell you from experience, dont run the apexi turbo at full boost on stock internals. I was running a gt30r at 29-30psi and it ultimately broke a ring land. now my car is sitting at mynes getting a FULLY BUILT motor and cosworth head waiting on a 37r kit. The stock internals may or may not stand up to the boost, and it is an expensive decision when your motor fails. I would also watch out for that apexi header. I am sure you have heard, but gaijin's head has cracked 3 different times on 2 different apexi headers.

My advice would be to NOT plan maxing out your stock internals, ultimately it is a ticking time bomb.

Good Luck!!

heres your plan...box up your apexi turbo kit,AND MAIL IT BACK...you will get no where with that turbo...APEXi went out of business...shows how good there are....that kit isnt even rated for over 500whp i read....it has way to many parts and a very very tight fit....buy a 35R or a 3076 and you will blow that apexi out that water....just my .02

It seems that Meth injection is the way to go, some people have gone 11's on the stock turbo with it. You will definitly need cams as well from what I have been reading.

I just bought my 06 MR and I have been researching a lot. I wanted to see if you could give me some more details on your specifc set up as that is the route I am going with mine for now.

No cams? That would be the next logical step.

You have a IX, so you might want to hold off on cams. Have you considered replacing the upper and lower IC piping, and porting or upgrading the O2 housing and exhaust manifold?

I'd say your next logical step is to dump Mynes and go to a real shop.

LMAO- The guy was asking for opinions- and last I checked this was a public forum so I gave him my opinion.

Three fastest evo's in AZ? That's not really saying much- now is it? But if you insist- please show us some dynocharts, and time slips, and vids of track runs that support your claims of Myne's. They may be the highest and fastest in AZ, but overall it's pretty average- if that.

I don't come to the shop, and wouldn't anyways- too far. I'd MUCH rather drive an extra 1K miles to have a real shop like Vishnu, AMS, Buschur, or TurboTrix work on my car. They all have proven track records, slips, vids, charts, not to mention an awesome customer following.

Last I heard Myne's was blowing up a bunch of engines.

Either finish out the regular Stage IV mods or just go with a bigger turbo.

Well...I am a big fan of torque over HP. Eventually I plan on getting a tune and build with this in mind. That is an expensive kit you have sitting at your house. If its all paid for, why not put it on? I would hate for it to just sit there

But having a kit doesn't mean you start upping the boost like crazy...on stock internals I would not go over 23psi anyways. The 2.0L engine has a great stroke for high revving...maybe put on a 1.2mm head gasket to drop the compression down to 8.5:1 and go up to 25psi. Stick some Cams, and other supporting mods in (fuel system, Ignition, etc) and you should have a monster of a street car.

But put it in perspective.

Thanks for all the opinions guys, good and bad

Can anyone tell me at what Wheel HP and TQ my stock internals will start to go? I mean if I max out my stock turbo.

Also how much boost can the stock turbo push?

well first of all you are in NM so how do you know ANYTHING about the shop, other than forum talk? second, look at their evo ix...ran 11.99 with turboback exhaust, drop-in filter, boost controller and tuning...I haven't seen that anywhere else. you can look up the timesheet in the thread that was started for it. stop hating on shops that you have never even been to. at leasat try and show a little respect.
