Im sticking with a 17x8

tires are cheaper, the wheels are typically cheaper...plus I like having a little extra sidewall for hard cornering every now and again

first off, an 18 inch rim or 19 inch rim is not necessarily going to remove any wheel gap

because, when you run a 17 inch rim, your tire size is usually something like 235/45/17

but when you run an 18 or 19, ur more like 265/35/18 or 275/30/19 or **** like that

the rim is larger, but the tire profile is smaller

your overall diameter (rolling circumference) should never change unless you decide to change it

like a 235/45/18 would be one inch taller than a 235/45/17 about

but you should run a 235/40 or 235/35/18 to keep your wheel/tire diameter the same, not sure which is closer

I just mounted tires on my SP1s and they are on the car right now. WIll post pics tomorrow. I went with 255x35 Dunlops. Since Im just gonna use those wheels for daily driving I went with cheaper tires $155/tire. I just need tires that have good thread life and are quiet so I can hear my 3"TBE. I still have my stockers for Track days. However I will have to drop the car ASAP because the gap is little too big.

The WRC cars (more relevant to us than F1) use 18" wheels when racing on tarmac. It should be a better mix of handling vs 17" and acceleration/braking vs 19". Snow & dirt=different needs therefore 15" etc.

F1 cars also produce 1000 times more down force than our EVO's. If they had 2" of rubber between the wheel and the road, under 1000+ lbs of down force, that would flaten out and be of no use hence the bigger aspect ratio of the tire.

How do you know? Do you have 19" wheels on your Evo? Ever driven one with 19" Wheels? Why is it that the best of super cars run 19" or 20" wheels? The Latest Z06 has 19Inch wheels as well, Broke a record Why would you say that they don't handle well? Please post your findings.

Just thought I would point out again that F1 wheels are of regulation diameter. They are not allowed to be bigger than that. The same applies to WRC wheels IIRC and they have different maximum diameters for different surfaces I believe.

ok well after my volk ce28n were put on [18x9], my evo def. feels slower, and these rims are forged and one of the lightest i can buy, i think these 18s are lighter than stock 17s or damn near close to it.

Depends on the tire weight too. My combo of stock tire/wheel was 46lbs each. The 18" Volk with Neovas was 43lbs each. I felt a slight increase in acceleration. Some people end up putting really heavy tires on there and it will change things up. For instance, my 235/45/18 MX's weigh in at 25lbs each, however, the 275s weigh near 30lbs! Big difference!

There are so many factores to consider even if you keep the overall diameter the same as stock my lowering the profile of the 18" tire. One thing to take into consideration is the location of the weight. Even though a replacement 18" wheel might be the same weight (or lighter) than stock, odds are that more weight is going to be located further from the center of the wheel. You must also take into consideration of the weight of the replacement tire. All I know for sure is that I used to drive a blown integra that I ran stock 15" wheels on for the longest time. I eventually upgraded the wheels/tires. Beforehand I made sure that I choose a strong 17" cast wheel that was as light/same as stock. I choose a SSR cast wheel that weighted 2 pounds lighter than stock. I was not happy and would have went back to stock or an aftermarket 15" cast wheel if I kept the car any longer, for the linear acceleration was noticabily effected. BTW, I'm an "all go / no show" type of guy turning 40.

I'm pretty sure that a 17 or 18" wheel is the best choice for tracking an evo. Every car has a best wheel size for performance, usually based the vehicles weight, size and design. A "supercar" does not have 4 doors and an upright seating position, so that is not a legitimate comparison. My friend just drove a new z06 and he said it's the best car he has driven to date, but it is a very different car than the EVO. Just because the Corvette drives well with 19 inch wheeles does not mean that that is the best choice for all cars. The Corvette was probably designed to use them.
Back in the day my buddy put big wheeles on his first gen MR2 and it felt like a go-cart even though I know it would have been slower on a tight track than a smaller tire/wheel combo. A stiff flat feel does not always equate to speed on the track.
If street looks are all one is concerned with, put on 19's or 20's or whatever, just express your style and be happy, but expect comments from performance freaks.
Sorry for the long post.
